William Graves was the son of Samuel Francis and Hannah (Lambert) Graves. He was born July 22, 1891 in Carroll County , Illinois and he married Vena Mills, the daughter of Thomas and Anna (Meyers) Mills. She was born November 19, 1897 in Illinois.

When the Prairie Farmer’s Reliable Directory for Carroll County was published in 1917, they were farming 104 acres in Section 31, Woodland Township , Carroll County , but by April 1930 when the census was taken they were farming in York Township , Carroll County.

Later they apparently moved to Clinton, Clinton County, Iowa, where both died, William in June 1980 and Vena in June 1985. They had one child.
