Born in Va. in Jan., 1807;
came to this Co. in 1836:
was among the earliest settlers of the Co.;
died in Oct., 1856;
was Co. Superintendent of Schools of this Co.
for many years, and was a member of the
second Constitutional Convention of this
state for revising the constitution;
married
Miss Mary J. Davis, who was born in Washington Co., Va.; she still survives him;
he
left five children: William, John, Robert,
Sarah and Margaret.
Garner Moffett
came in 1835, and purchased a claim, probably Swaggert's. Moffett lived
in the original log house until 1846 or 1848.
Sarah, daughter of Garner Moffett (now the wife of Emanuel Stover),
was born in 1837, and is the oldest native resident of that vicinitv.
