Lucius S. Thorp

Surveyer and drainage commissioner, residing in Elkhorn Grove township. He was born in Genesee County NY, Nov. 15, 1825, and came to this state and Co Oct. 26, 1846. Mr. Thorp is proprietor of Flouring Mill at Elkhorn Grove, he owns 47 acres with improvements, all of which is valued at $12,000. He married Miss Phoebe A Biles who was born in Bradford Co PA, Oct. 26, 1832, they were married June 18, 1854 and have three children; Eva A., Charles S., and Carrie E. He was Justice of the Peace from 1862 until 1877 and was Supervisor one term and Assessor a number of years.

Lucius S. Thorp was first appointed and thereafter elected as County Surveyor, November and again elected in 1888, 1896, 1900 and 1904.

The village (Milledgeville) was platted May 19, 1850 and surveyed by Philander Seymour. Oscar Freemans' addition was laid out February 7, 1854, surveyed by L.S. Thorpe.
