HENDERSON CEMETERY
Woodland Twp, Carroll Co IL
Photos contributed by Leroy Getz
Information from Alice Horner & Leroy Getz
The Henderson Cemetery is on Blue Mountain Road, near what had been the Henderson (Polsgrove) School,
This cemetery is on private property, inaccessible, and long abandoned.
The area was only 12 feet by 16 feet. These three headstones are broken and in poor condition.
These inscriptions are on the tombstones:
|
In Memory of Maj. Robert Henderson
born Feb. 15, 1785
died May 9, 1871
|
|
In memory of
Nancy wife of Robert Henderson
died June 6, 1880
aged 86 yrs. ? mos. ? days
|
|
Lucinda wife of P. P. Gill
born in Davis Co. Iowa Dec. 13, 1810
died in Carroll Co. Ill Nov. 25, 1875
Lucinda is the daughter of Robert and Nancy.
The P. P. Gill on Lucinda Gill's tombstone is Philip Gill; they both appear on the 1870 US Federal Census for Woodland Township,
Carroll County, Illinois. This census gives her place of birth as Tennessee, not Davis County, Iowa.
And considering how unsettled Iowa was in 1810, it's hard to believe she was born there.
But clearly that's what's inscribed on the tombstone.
