COMMUNITY of LOCUST GROVE

Locust Grove was a small area northwest of Hickory Grove and/or Wacker, in Mount Carroll Township, Carroll County. It is not marked on maps, not even on the 1893 plat map. Although I don't know how big an area was considered to be Locust Grove, it may have been centered where the Locust Grove School was, at what is (in 2011) 12245 W. Wacker Road. (The book “Carroll County, A Goodly Heritage” gives this address as 4802 W. Wacker, but the area’s roads have been renumbered since 1968, when the book was published.)
The Locust Grove School was west of the south end of Becker Road, and in the southwest part of Section 17, on or adjacent to land which was then (and is now) owned by the Friederich family. This country schoolhouse has been used as a residence at least since 1950 and possibly before. Please email Alice Horner if you know the approximate perimeters of Locust Grove.
Thanks go to Erma Krum and Marilyn Becker for their help in researching this area.
