Savanna Illinois on the Mississippi


James W. Good -- Dubuque Boat and Boiler
The boat "James W. Good" was built at the Dubuque Boat and Boiler Works. This yard began life in 1851 as Iowa Iron Works. It was renamed Dubuque Boat & Boiler Works in 1905 and closed in 1972. The yard was located in the Ice Harbor, where the National Mississippi River Museum is now.


Sabula Bridge between Savanna and Iowa
The Savanna-Sabula Bridge is a truss bridge and causeway crossing the Mississippi River and connecting the city of Savanna, Illinois with the island city of Sabula, Iowa. The bridge carries U.S. Highway 52 over the river. It is also the terminus of both Iowa Highway 64 and Illinois Route 64. The bridge carries an average of 2,400 vehicles daily as of 2005. The bridge was built in 1932.
