Deputy U.S. Marshall Dutcher, of Chicago, was in town one day last week on business. He levied on some stock for debt here and had considerable trouble getting away with it, but lugged it off just the same.

Below zero Monday morning in this borough is what made the average citizen feel a slight shiver run up and down the middle of his back.

Reverend Forncrook of Lanark, preached a very interesting sermon in the M.E. Church last Sabbath evening. The gentleman was greeted on the occasion by a large and attentive audience.

Frank Shelly returned from a rather extended visit to friends and relations in the southern part of the state one day last week.

About thirty couples attended the dance in the opera house last Thursday evening and from what we learned enjoyed themselves immensely until the early morning hours warned them that day light was near at hand. Several young gentlemen from abroad were in attendance.

The entertainment given in the M.E. Church last Friday evening attracted an unusually large audience. The exercise consisted of vocal and instrumental music – declamations, readings and a few short speeches. A very handsome tree was loaded with presents and many persons were very kindly remembered by old Santa Claus who donated many beautiful and useful gifts. All present voted the occasion a most pleasant one and the ladies who had charge of the entertainment may rest assured that the efforts to furnish an enjoyable time was unusually successful. The proceeds of the evening’s nearly twenty dollars will add considerable to the fund to complete the repairs of the church.

The good people of the Evangelical society in Shannon gave the young people connected with their church a most pleasant Christmas entertainment last Saturday forenoon. They had a handsome Christmas tree set up in the church which was loaded down with many useful and valuable presents. There was something for nearly everyone and none were present at the church on this occasion but can say that they were well paid for attending. of course a great deal of credit is due to the Pastor Rev. Yekel and the ladies who so kindly devoted their time to the preparation of the tree. But they no doubt will be repaid as the success of this entertainment was complete and highly appreciate by all Shannon
