What I have been able to find out in random searches is this.
William August Barthel was born 11 Nov 1822 in Germany. He came to this country soon after his brother Herman Frederick Barthel arrived.
William married Catherine Plock 3 Feb 1864 in Carroll County. She was born 24 Oct. 1845 and died 6 Feb 1923.
The children I'm been able to find are :

Johanna (Annie) Barthel b 23 Jun 1869 m Frank F. Healey
Clara Barthel m Henry D. Bills
Dorothy Barthel b May 1875 married unknown Buswell
