George H. Diehl was born in Germany, February 14, 1842. He came to America with his mother and two other children. His father passed away in the homeland. George Diehl was a farmer and spent most of his life on the Diehl homestead about 6 miles southeast of Lanark, IL. On 19 February 1863 in Chambers Grove, Illinois he was married to Catherine Fry (the license was obtained in Stephenson Co IL). Catherine was born 17 December 1840 in Eastern Canada the daughter of George and Margaret Fry. When she was three years her parents moved to Naperville Illinois and seven years later moved to Chambers Grove in Ogle County, here she grew up. George and Catherine were the parents of four children - Jacob A., Emma who married Elijah Cheeseman, Agnes who married William Dambman and one childed died in infancy.

Catherine Diehl died 6 July 1924. She lived 83 years, 6 months and 19 days. Upon the death of his wife George lived with his children until he died 25 April 1931. Catherine Diehl Obituary and George Diehl Obituary are buried at Lanark Cemetery. They were members of the Methodist Church.
