Born February 1864 in Illinois, Jacob Andrew Diehl, married Alice Minerva Sarber 5 October 1884 in Carroll County IL. Alice was born 24 April 1866 in Lima Township, Carroll County IL. the daughter of Gabriel and Harriet (Michael) Sarber. Jacob and Alice were the parents of 10 children.

OBITUARY - Jacob Diehl
Following a prolonged illness which has extended over a period of about fourteen months, Jacob A. Diehl, 68, passed away at his home here about 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. Diehl was born in Ogle county in 1864 and for many years resided on a farm east of here. About 5 years ago the family moved to Lanark where they have since resided. Mr. Diehl was a member of the First Brethren church. He is survived by his widow, formerly Miss Alice Sarber, the following children, Mrs. William Peters, Mrs. Clarence Grove, Mrs. Milton Traum, all residing near Lanark, Cloyd Diehl, of Freeport, Irving Diehl, Milledgeville, Merle Diehl, Shannon, and Harold Diehl, of Mt. Carroll, and the following sisters, Mrs. Agnes Dambman, near Mt. Carroll and Mrs. Emma Cheeseman, of Shannon. Funeral services will take place at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Brethren church with the Rev. C. C. Grisso, pastor, officiating. Interment will be made in the Lanark cemetery. OBITUARY - Mrs. Alice (Sarber) Diehl Mrs. Alice Diehl, widow of Jacob Diehl, passed away about 1 o'clock this morning at her home in Lanark, following an illness of about five months duration. Although she had been in failing health for some time, her condition was not regarded as serious until recently. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Sarber, was born in Lima township in 1865, and has resided in this community her entire lifetime. She was united in marriage with Jacob Diehl in 1884. Her husband preceded her in death. She leaves the following children: Cloyd Diehl of Freeport, Merle Diehl, of Shannon; Mrs. William Peters, Mrs. Milton Traum, Irvin and Harold Diehl, of Lanark. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the family home and at 2 o'clock at the FIrst Brethren church, the Rev. C. C. Grisso, pastor, officiating.
