MEMORIES

George W. Hines - Baseball Player from Lanark IL

Daggetts/Daggerts Station on the Burlington Railroad, was located 4 miles south of Mt. Carroll in Salem Twp. Early History said that Adam Daggert was postmaster of an early postoffice, but it does not appear on the postoffice records. Daggerts farm was on the Cherry Grove fork of the road about 1 and 1/2 miles northeast of the Tysonville postoffice. If there is any credibility to the anecdote here mentioned, Daggert in all likelihood was assistant for a short time at this postoffice. Although a learned scholar in the German language he could not read or write English. So while he was acting postmaster - the patrons had to sort their own mail.

Lanark IL - Local train crossing
The person who put this on Ebay indicated the building on the left was the "Hotel Lanark"
Anyone know for sure ?

Sent by Mrs. Ditsworth to J.H. Knepper in Altoona PA (Same photo as above showing the water tower

The postcard says this is Georgetown but several people have identified it as Lanark
Even though it says "State St." this appears to be a view of Broad St. facing North

Greetings From Lanark 1909
