George Haag, son of Andrew and Anna Haag, was born Nov. 13, 1859 at Mt. Carroll and when he was three years old the family moved to a farm in Fair Haven where he still resides. He married Miss Mary Weltsel, Dec. 23, 1884, and last year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Alice Bailey will celebrate her birthday next Thursday, Nov. 15. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Eisman and was born in Morrison. She was married to W. E. Bailey on Dec. 23, 1877 and has spent most of her life in this vicinity. This winter she is staying with a son at Fulton.

The marriage of Howard Stoner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Stoner and Blanche E. Linder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Linder of Seattle, Wash., was solemnized Saturday [07/25/1953] evening at 7 o’clock in the Hope EUB Church parsonage by the Rev. E. V. Schriver. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Stoner. The new Mrs. Stoner served as WAC in the transportation corps during World War II. Howard was in the U. S. Navy World War II as storekeeper on the USS Idaho six years, and at present is working at ICA, Morrison, Their residence has not been decided.

Mrs. Rebecca Calkins of Chadwick passed away Sunday [10/20/1929] afternoon at 3 o’clock at the home of her son, Dr. A. A. Calkins, at the age of 88 years. Mrs. Calkins was born at Pulaski, New York, July 7, 1841, and lived in that state until nine years ago, when her husband died and she came to make her home with her son, Dr. A. A. Calkins. Mrs. Calkins had been very low since Thursday evening. Mrs. Calkins is survived by her son, Dr. A. A. Calkins of Chadwick and H. J. Calkins of St. Paul, Minn. The body was shipped Tuesday morning to her old home at Pulaski, N. Y., where funeral services will be held on Wednesday. Dr. A. A. Calkins acompanied the body to New York. (From Larry Reynolds)

The occasion was a birthday dinner given in honor of Mrs. Bast’s father, Fred Garwick, who makes his home with them. On Saturday [10/25/1930] Mr. Garwick celebrated his 86th birthday. Schreiner whose seventy fifth birthday anniversary occurred Saturday [02/18/1933] was pleasantly surprised in the evening when his children and grand children came to his home to help him celebrate the occasion. Progressive games were played and a delicious lunch served. Miss Marian Zugschwerdt of Chadwick and Arnold Roberts of Mount Carroll were married Sunday [10/10/1937] at 2 p. m. at St. Mary’s Lutheran church in Davenport, Ia. The Rev. James C. Suter read the single ring ceremony. The couple was attended by Miss Alice Adolph and Spurgeon Harter, jr. Mrs. Roberts wore a gray suit with red accessories and Miss Adolph a wine color dress with black accessories. Mrs. Roberts is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Zugschwerdt of Chadwick and was graduated from the Chadwick Community high school with the class of 1937. Mr. Roberts is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Roberts of Mount Carroll and was graduated from the Mount Carroll high school in 1933. After November 1 they will make their home in Moline where Mr. Roberts is employed by the John Deere company.

Virgil Tommans, son of Mr. and MRs. Reuben Tommans of Chadwick, sustained a broken collar bone in an auto accident Friday night at the Rauser corner, two miles southwest of town. He was returning to hishome in Chadwick and failed to make the turn, hitting the ditch on the northside of the road. The car turned over in a field, pinning him beneath. Mrs. William Wagnerheard his cries for help and soon a number of neighbors were at the scene and released him. The car was badly damaged. The dense fog Friday night, which made driving extremely dangerous, was responsible for the accident.

Members of the home nursing class at Chadwick completed a 10-week course Monday [12/06/19443] evening with Mrs. Eugene Miller, R. N., acting as instructor. The meetings have been held in the Black Oak Grange hall. The class started with 28 beginners and 24 completed the course and received certificates. Those of the class having perfect attendance for the entire course were Mrs. Clifton Spencer, Mrs. Donald Bogott, Mrs. Richard Strauch, Mrs. Robert Spealman, Miss Arlette Hartman, Miss Verna May Gridlay, Mrs. Robert Spencer and Mrs. John McGill.

Three of Chadwick’s oldest and highly respected citizens will observe their 86th birthday anniversaries within the coming week. Mrs. Emma Hohnadel will observe her birthday Sunday, Nov. 11. She was born at Downers Grove Nov. 11, 1859, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Sucher and in her early youth the family moved to a farm in Fair Haven township. She was married to Henry Hohnadel and lived on a farm until 1902 when they moved to Chadwick. Her husband passed away a number of years ago and she is being cared for by a niece, Mrs. Lizzie Hohnadel.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris M. Dambman of Chadwick announce the marriage of t heir only daughter Erma Mae to Harold Andrew Ogilvie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester R. Ogilvie of Beardstown, Saturday [06/22/1946] morning in the First Evangelical church in Downers Grove. The Rev. Willard Geise read the single ring ceremony. The bride wore an aqua street length dress with white accessories and a shoulder corsage of white carnations. For traveling she selected a beige wool suit with matching accessories. They are honeymooning at Denver, Colorado Springs and other points of interest in Colorado. Mrs. Ogilvie is a graduate of the Chadwick Community high school, Frances Shimer college, and Northwestern university. She taught in the Downers Grove schools and for the past two years has taught in La Grange. Mr. and Mrs. Ogilvie will be at home after July at 4804 Lincott avenue, Downers Grove, where the bridegroom is employed by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy railroad.

Cynthia K. Riley, 603 E. 2nd St., Sterling, and Gayle E. Peugh, RR 2, Chadwick, were arrested Friday [04/19/1974] for shoplifting at the K-Mart store. According to police reports Cynthia Riley attempted to leave the store with a body shirt valued at $7.78 while Gayle Peugh attempted to leave the store with several items of clothing in her purse valued at $15.38. They were both apprehended and turned over to police where they posted bond and were released with notice to appear in court at a later date.
