Savanna Veterans Celebration September 16, 1898

Soldiers Gather at Savanna Today In Large Numbers to Attend the Reunion
Rev. J. H. Moore of Polo Delivers The Address- Peace Jubilee Features

Savanna Illinois, September 16- The city is handsomely decorated today in honor of the old soldiers who assemble here in annual reunion, there were large delegations present from various sections of the county and an excellent program was carried out at the Eagle Opera House as follows:

The Battle Cry of Freedom, J. F. Fuller and choir; prayer Rev, Cary F. Moore : America choir and audience; address of welcome , Col Don H. Fraser; responses, C. L. Hosteletter; Tramp, tramp tramp, J.F. Fuller and choir ; The Vacant Chair, Abbie Fuller, Fern Fraser, J.F. Fuller , C. E. Shafetal; oration. Rev. J.H. More of Polo: Sound the loud timbre. Mrs. Benedict and choir: Tis finished, tis ended, Capt. E.T. E. Becker and choir.

The peace jubilee program arranged is as follows: Gloria in excelsis, choir, toast, The War with Spain; response Honorable D.S. Berry; Flag of our ancestors, choir; toast. Peace: response, Rev. B.A. Dickens; Sweet peace descending, choir; toast, Our returning soldiers, response Fred S. Smith: When the Johnny comes marching home again; See the conquering hero comes, choir, toast. Annexation toast, responses Honorable D.C. Bussell; Red white and blue, choir; toast. Our country our flag; response, Professor W. Prat Star spangled banner, choir, toast. The boys and girls our country’s future; Professor W.S. Wallace, from Esther , quartette and choir.
