ELIZABETH KATHERINE (RAUTH) BICKELHAUPT
, was born February 21, 1823 in Laudenan, near Reichelsheim, Hessia-Germany and died December 23, 1904 at the home of her son Adam in Center Hill of old age. Her age was 81 years, 10 months, and 2 days.
In 1849 she came to this country to Pennsylvania, where she was married to Valentine Bickelhaupt and with whom she lived in happy wedlock until his death in 1892.
In 1857 they moved to Carroll County, Ill., where the deceased is known to young and old and was respected by all. She loved her home and would not give up the same unless sickness made it necessary. Last winter she had a severe and long illness when she was tenderly nursed at the home of her son George by him and his family.
When she took sick a little over a week ago at the home of her son, Adam, medical treatment and tender care of her sons and their families was of no benefit for the tired body that longed for rest.
She is no more. Our loss is her gain.
Six children were born to this union, 5 sons and 1 daughter. The daughter and 2 sons preceded the mother to the other shore.
Jacob H., George F., and Adam Bickelhaupt are the surviving children. Besides these she leaves 7 grandchildren and 1 great grand child and many relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
In 1851 at a camp meeting in Pennsylvania, under the auspices of the U. B. Church she was converted to God, she joined that denomination, serving her God in the simplicity of faith. When she came to Center Hill she was united with the Evangelical Association in which she was a member of good standing until the time of her death.
The funeral services were held on December 25, Christmas Day at the U. B. Church in Center Hill where the pastor, F.W. Doede, preached to a large congregation from Rev. 14, 13. Rev. W. Oberheim also spoke some earnest and encouraging words to the bereaved family and congregation. The singing was rendered by the Lutheran choir of Mt. Carroll.
Her body was interred in Center Hill cemetery where it will await the sound of the resurrection trumpet.
May God bless the bereaved family and help them to a union above.
GEORGE F. BICKELHAUPT

He was a man highly respected for his sterling qualities of character. He was a good husband and a kind father. In 1891 he became a member of the Mount Carroll Methodist Church. His going was sudden, but a comforting one for him, long afflicted and unable to share the social and active life which meant so much to him.
The community again bows in homage and respect as another pioneer passes from the scene. He will be greatly missed by his wife, who has tenderly cared for him in all his weakness and trial; and also by his two sons and daughter. He will be tenderly remembered by his many grandchildren also, and by his old friends.

Andrew J. Brock -- Succumbs to Cancer at Presbyterian Hospital, Chicago, This Morning (May 25, 1906 paper date)
Andrew J. Brock, well known in this city, died early this morning in the Presbyterian hospital in Chicago as a result of cancer with which he has been afflicted for some time. In January he entered the hospital where he had several operations performed but derived but little relief. The body will be brought to this city this evening on the Sterling passenger by a nephew, Mr. A. A. Brock of Chicago, and from the train will be taken to the home of Miss Belle Ferguson at 609 Avenue E where the funeral service will be held at 4 o'clock on Friday afternoon by Rev. W. W. Diehl, who will officiated in the absence of Rev. Mr. Crowl, of whose church the deceased was a member. On Saturday morning the body accompanied by friends will be taken to Bethel Cemetery, three miles southwest of Milledgeville where the family burial place is located and will be interred there with military honors by the G. W. R. from Milledgeville which will meet the cortege at the cemetery. Andrew Jackson Brock was born in Lawrence county, Ind., on October 12, 1843. When he was but a small child his father came west and established his home on a farm near Milledgeville, where he remained for the remainder of his life. The deceased grew up there and within a few months of the breaking out of the war of the rebellion, he enlisted in Company H, Fifty-fifth Illinois Infantry, and served as a soldier until the close of the war. After his discharge from the service he came to this city, where with his brother, he was in the mercantile business for a short time. The remainder of his life has been spent on the road as a commercial traveler. For a time he lived in Iowa, and has from time to time, spent considerable time in this city. During the latter part of his life he has made his home in Chicago where his wife who survives now resides. Mr. Brock had but one son, Herbert, who like his father was a commercial traveler. Last year the young man was stricken with illness while in New Orleans and died there as it was afterward proven from the dread yellow fever. He was one of the first victims of the disease there, which later became epidemic. In the passing of Mr. Brock, his generation of the family have all gone to their last home. His relatives in this city are Miss Belle Ferguson and Mrs. F. R. Stoddard, nieces, and Hon. V. S. Ferguson, a nephew. Mr. Brock was a kindly man, full of cheerfulness and one of the most entertaining companions. He had many friends and deserved them all. Two years ago he united with the Congregational church at Sterling and has been a faithful member of that church up to the time of his death.
