GRAHAM THORNE COLEHOUR
, 29, Mount Carroll, father of four children, died Thursday of crushing injuries suffered when a 30 foot radio
tower toppled onto him while he was erecting it here.
Colehour, a radio and television salesman and repairman, was on top of the
tower when a guy wire clamp slipped free and the tower began to fall.
A second Mount Carroll man, Larry Roberts, standing at the foot of the
tower, said he yelled a warning and Colehour began to slide down. The
tower, however, caught him before he reached the roof and crushed him.
Colehour, according to Roberts, was at the tip section of the tower with
his safety belt on when the accident occurred. The tower was being
installed by the men on the roof of the old Keen Canning Co. building,
Montery St.
Hook and ladder equipment was used by firemen to tie the injured man to a
stretcher and lower him on a ladder from the roof of the building. He was
taken to Freeport Memorial Hospital in an ambulance. He died at the
hospital an hour after his accident, at 5:15 p.m.
Colehour and Roberts were employed by the J and M Electronics, Freeport,
to install the tower. It was reportedly a two-way radio system.
Gene Burke, Stephenson County Coroner said death apparently was caused by
crushing injuries to the chest and head. The inquest has been continued.
Included among his survivors are his widow, Mary; two sons, Michael and
John, and two daughters, Mary Jane and Patricia, all at home: his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Colehour, Mount Carroll; and one brother, Theodore,
Mount Carroll.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Frank Funeral
Home with the Rev. Wilbur Fogg, of the Savanna Episcopal Church,
officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. There
will be no visitation.

HANNAH (RICHARDS) COLEHOUR
- Word came to our city Sunday by telegram from Detroit City, Minn (Detroit Lakes, Becker Co) , that Hannah R. Colehour had died at the home of her daughter, Susan R. Jacobsen. The cause of her death was general debility resulting from her extreme age. She being 92 years and 12 days old. She was born in Norristown, Penn., Oct. 5, 1805, and was married to Henry Colehour in 1828 and moved to Willistown, Chester County, where they continued to reside until 1853 when they came to this city where they lived until they moved on the Colehour farm west of this city. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom survive her. Samuel living on the old homestead, Charles in Chicago, James and Susan in Minnesota, Lieut. David B. Colehour of the 92nd Ill. died in the army. Hiram died in this city in 1864. Will died two years ago. Her husband died in this city in 1855. Grandmother Colehour and her husband were baptized in 1835 and joined the Baptist Church at Norristown, PA., and when they came to this city they united in organizing the Baptist church here, where her membership was at the time of her death. Living a true, faithful and devoted christian life. A life consecrated by prayer and faith. Her death was the unfolding of her clearer vision of eternal life through Jesus Christ. As mourners at her funeral were children, grand children and great grandchildren, many of whom enjoy the christian hope of everlasting life, and to the others they can realize the "beckoning hands" of a dear old saint. The remains were brought here Tuesday evening and Wednesday short services were held in the Baptist church conducted by Rev. Philips; reading select passages of sacred writ; prayer and singing, "Christians home in Glory;" a short obituary address, singing, "Sweet bye and bye." The pall bearers were four of the grand sons. The floral design was the cross and anchor made of fragrant flowers. The funeral cortege took up the line of march to Oak Hill Cemetery, where the mortal remains of grand mother Colehour was deposited to await the morn of the first resurrection. We venture to refer to the personal appearance of the dear old saint that we never saw a more beautiful picture of innocence and sweetness on the face of a corpse. Such an expression might without sin be converted by the living. Our people condole with the mourners in their said, and to christians, not sad bereavement.
