MARY JANE (ZUCK) DAVIS
, the subject of this sketch was born in Freedom township, Carroll County, Illinois May 4th 1850, and spent her entire life in her native county. On December 22, 1868 she was united in marriage to Christopher Davis, who preceded her in death six months and four days. To them were born five children, four of whom survive their parents. Those who survive being Sarah of Mt. Carroll, Mrs. Nellie Jones of Savanna, Mrs. Mae Altensey of Mt. Carroll, and Charles F. of Wysox. Thomas H, the eldest son meeting death by a fatal accident twenty years ago. Beside their own family, they were foster parents to Mr. George Beck of Savanna, Mrs. Iva Feezer of Chicago, and Mrs. Hattie Lantz of Mt. Carroll, who were nieces and nephew, to whom they extended the same love and devotion as to their own children. Besides these are eleven grand children and nine great grandchildren. Others [sic] than her immediate family there remains Mrs. Mary Sutton of Mt. Carroll and Mrs. Ellen Shore of Versailes, Missouri, both of whom were sisters of Mr. Davis.
When Mr. and Mrs. Davis were married they rented a farm in Salem Township, which they afterward purchased and which they owned at the time of their deaths. In early life Mrs. Davis was converted and became a consistent member of the Methodist church during her life. Mrs. Davis was a woman of high social qualities and a kind and friendly nature, cheerful and happy, being an inspiration to all those with whom she associated. As a friend and neighbor she was held in the highest esteem and many are the expressions of sorrow at her departure. But now that she is gone, we can console ourselves with the thought that she fought a good fight, that she kept the faith—that her reward is secure.
The passing of Mrs. Davis marks the sixth death in the relationship, in less than four years.
Funeral services were held in the home on Cole Ave., Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. Reverend William H Evans, officiated. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery

T.D. DAVIS
- Aged Citizen Passes to His Rest After Suffering Long Illness - T.D. Davis, one of our most respected citizens died at his home on SOuth Main street Thursday evening about seven o'clock. Mr. Davis has been a resident of Mt. Carroll for many years and has always been looked upon by his townsmen with the greatest respect and admiration for his many qualities of worth and Sterling manhood. In early life Mr. Davis followed the occupation of a farmer. Later he moved to this city and became identified with the interests of the town, He served as county clerk and as county treasurer, filling each office with exceptional ability. Mr. Davis was also employed in the FIrst National Bank of which institution he was a trusted clerk and valued assistant. Mr. Davis in early life embraced the christian religion and for the remainder of his years followed the teachings of his Master. As a member of the Baptist church he was looked upon as one of that body's staunchest pillars. His life was spent in accordance with the teachings of Christ as he found them in the Bible, and as they were explained to him by the pastors of the church. Mr. Davis has been failing for months past, but all his sufferings were borne with a manly fortitude and christian patience seldom equaled. Of late his mind had failed him somewhat and his decline has been rapid. Death came to him at last and the aged man passed peacefully to his eternal rest. - Mt. Carroll Mirror. Funeral services were held on Saturday evening at 4:30 from the home. Rev. J. P. Phillips officiated.

WAYNE BENNETT DOTY
, third son of Harvey and Pearl Nipe Doty, was born September 10, 1915 in Mt. Carroll township and departed this life at the St. Francis Hospital in Freeport, Illinois on July 14, 1926, aged 10 years, 9 months, and 4 days. Thus death brought relief after a long period of suffering. Wayne was taken sick in May 1920, which sickness left him a cripple. Through these long years he has been a patient sufferer, bearing his cross with a courage that was inspirational to all. To know him was to love him, and his death as left a vacant place that can never be filled. Everything possible was done for his relief and it was in a final effort to make it possible for him to walk and play as other children walk and play that death stepped in and interfered with the plans of man. But all is for the best and he is now at rest with God, where no pain or suffering is known. Wayne was a regular attendant in the Methodist Sunday School in this city, and took a great interest in the work, having just last Sunday received a pin, of which he was very proud, as an award for regular attendance. He leaves to mourn his demise his sorrowing parents, three brothers Joseph, Arthur, and John, and one sister, Margie, besides a host of relatives and friends. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 1:30 from the home and 2 o’clock from the M. E, Church in this city, Rev. Hester conducting the service. Burial was made in the Wacker cemetery
