DANIEL W. ETNYRE , owner of a Chadwick service station for many years, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday October 18, 1959 in his home in Lanark. He was born May 27, 1883 in Savanna, the son of Jerry and Maria (Yeager) Etnyre. He married Alta Byers, who died about 10 years ago. He married Mrs. Hattie Gillogly of Lanark April 8, 1953. Etnyre moved to Lanark seven years ago following his retirement. He was affiliated with the Standard Oil Company for 44 years. Survivors are his wife; two step-daughters, Mrs. Earl Neis of Savanna and Mrs. Evelyn Hawes of Freeport; two brothers, Oliver of Chadwick and Lee of Chicago; and one sister, Mrs. Laura Emery of North Hollywood, California; seven step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Frank Funeral Home, the Rev. William Kendall, pastor of the Thomson Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation is from 7 to 9 o’clock tonight at the funeral home.

EMILY THEOLA (FEILER) ETNYRE , age 95, of Freeport, Illinois, formerly of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, December 13, 2008, at the Provena St. Joseph Center, Freeport. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll, with Rev. Mark Harkness of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church or to the Caroline Mark Home, 222 East Lincoln St., Mt. Carroll, Illinois, 61053, in Theola’s memory. Emily Theola Feiler was born March 9, 1913, in Osseo, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edward A. and Allie (Clark) Feiler. She was baptized at Fennimore, Wisconsin, in 1921. She is a member of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Theola graduated from Freeport High School with the Class of 1929. Theola was united in marriage to Frank J. Etnyre on March 14, 1936, in Lanark, Illinois. He preceded her in death in November of 1975. Theola worked at Furst McNess for seven years before her marriage. She moved to the Caroline Mark Home in Mt. Carroll in 1993, and later moved to the Provena St. Joseph Center in Freeport in 2003. She enjoyed embroidering and handwork, reading, playing cards, classical and barbershop music and operas. Theola is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Daune (Bill) Glanville of Waupaca, Wisconsin; her granddaughter, Valerie (Dave) Beaumier of Oneida, Wisconsin; two great – grandchildren, Alex and Kira Beaumier; and two sisters, Shirley Fritzenmeier of Freeport, Illinois, and Beverly Quinn of Licking, Missouri. Theola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Frank, four brothers: DeLoyne, Lyle, Albert, and Donald Feiler; two sisters, Marlene Matheny and Maud Hunter; and one grandson Craig Suhling.

HATTIE (SMITH) GILLOGLY ETNYRE - Funeral service for Mrs. Dan (Hattie) Etnyre of Lanark, who died Friday night, January 12, 1973 in Savanna City Hospital, was held this afternoon in Frank Funeral Home, Lanark. The Rev. Larry Beverly, pastor of Woodland United Brethren Church, rural Mount Carroll, officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. (Alice Horner’s note: She is buried with her first husband, Chester Gillogly, under the name Hattie Gillogly.) Mrs. Etnyre was a member of Woodland Church and Shiloh Woman’s Relief Corps and Senior Citizens Group of Lanark. She was born November 4, 1884 in rural Mount Carroll, daughter of William and Sarah (White) Smith. On January 16, 1907 she was married to Chester Gillogly, who died August 11, 1945. She was married to Dan Etnyre August 8, 1953 in Shannon. He died October 18, 1959. (Alice Horner’s note: The original obituary gives his date incorrectly as October 11, 1959.) Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Marian) Neis of Savanna and Mrs. Evelyn Hawes of Freeport; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four brothers.

OLIVER HAROLD ETNYRE - Funeral services were held in Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, at 2 p.m. today for Oliver H. Etnyre, a Chadwick resident and World War I veteran, who died Wednesday in Freeport Memorial Hospital. Burial was in Chadwick Cemetery. The Rev. J. D. Cotherman, pastor of the Hope United Methodist Church, officiated. Mr. Etnyre worked at Savanna Army Depot for 23 years before retiring. He graduated from Chadwick High School and was a member of Hope United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Men’s Prayer Group of the church and the American Legion. He was born Oct. 25, 1898 in Carroll County, son of Jerry and Maria Etnyre. On Sept. 11, 1920 he married Esther Slifer. She died April 14, 1957. On June 5, 1960 he married Catherine Bowman. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Wilbur Linker of Lanark; a son, Harold R. Etnyre of Clinton, Iowa; a stepson, David Bowman of Lanark; 4 grandchildren; a sister, Laura of Atwater, Calif.; and a brother, Lee of Chicago. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, four brothers and two sisters.
