JOHN H. FREY , was born January 30, 1836 at Hagerstown, Maryland, and departed this life January 6, 1918, at the age of 81 years, 11 month and 5 days. He was the oldest of a family of four children. His mother died when he was but three days old. His father was again married, by which union three half sisters were born, all of whom live in the vicinity of Hagerstown. At an early age he united with the Lutheran church and has remained a member throughout life. On November 6, 1869, he was united in marriage to Anna M. Reynolds, also of Hagerstown, Maryland. To this union were born six children: Mrs. Porter Whitmore, Charles Evan, Mrs. Ezra Martin of Freeport, Mrs. Eddie Martin, Roy Irvin, and Mrs. Noah Sweitzer, all of whom are left to mourn this departure, except Charles Evan, who was taken home at the tender age of 2 years and 5 months. Fifteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Frey lived in the vicinity of their home town until March, 1903, when they came to Lanark, Ill., where they have since resided. The first seven years were spent near Georgetown. Since the spring of 1910 they have made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Eddie Martin. In the spring of 1915 he was stricken with paralysis from which he never fully recovered. Again in the winter of 1916 a second stroke left him further impaired in health, and at times a great sufferer, though he bore it all patiently. On October 10 disease had laid its hand so heavily upon his vitals that all that medical skill and kind hands would do could avail nothing and the end finally came last Sunday morning at 3:00 o'clock. Mr. Frey was a man of quiet, modest disposition always manifesting an interest in the quiet home life. In his departure the family loses an affectionate husband and father, and the community a valued citizen, neighbor and friend. The funeral was held at the Georgetown church of the Brethren, the services being conducted by Eld. Charles Delp. Interment was made in the Georgetown cemetery. The family express their thanks to neighbors and friends for their assistance during the sickness and death of their husband and father.
