ELMER L. GALOR
, a retired Burlington Railroad section foreman, died Tuesday morning, July 14, 1964 in a Savanna hospital. He was 76. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Orville Bogue and Mrs. John Stein, both of Savanna; two sons, Lewis of Sasvanna and Elmer Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Vada Shipman of Polo; and two brothers, Earl of Polo and Charles of Aurora.
Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Law Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Polo, where graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friends may call after 7 tonight in the funeral home.
CHESTER GILLOGLY
, 60, died at 1:45 a.m. Saturday August 11, 1945 in the farm home near Lanark after an illness of several months. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday n the Frank funeral home in Lanark, the Rev. H. F. Richards, pastor of the Church of the Brethren, officiating. Burial was in the Mount Carroll Cemetery.
Mr. Gillogly was born September 5, 1885, the son of Joseph and Harriett (Lane) Gillogly, and resided on a farm in Woodland Township. On January 16, 1906 he married the former Hattie May Smith. They moved to the Lanark vicinity seven years ago. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Earl Neis of Mount Carroll and Mrs. Earl Hawes of Freeport; a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Mason of Rivergrove, Illinois, and a brother Joseph Gillogly of Lanark, and six grandchildren. His parents and a sister preceded him in death.
HELEN (ROSS) GILLOGLY , age 91, of Savanna, Illinois, died after a brief illness Saturday, November 27, 2004 at Mercy Hospital North, Clinton, Iowa. Cremation will take place. A private family graveside service will be held at the Savanna Township Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 30 at the First Presbyterian Church of Savanna. Memorials may be given in Helen's name for the Church. Helen was born August 26, 1913 in Savanna, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Lauenburg) Ross. She married Omar Edward Gillogly June 18, 1933 in Galena, Illinois. Helen was a lifelong resident of Savanna. She worked many years as a secretary at the Savanna Ordinance Depot and Interstate Power Company. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Savanna community. She was an avid Bridge player, loved to travel, and went with her sons to Europe. Helen lived for her family She will be deeply missed by her two sons, Robert Ross (Barbara) Gillogly of Louisville, Kentucky and Richard Lee (Carol) of Brownsville, Vermont; four grandchildren, Karen (Steven) Blaiklock, Kristen (Thomas) Grayson, Ryan (Stephanie) Gillogly and Megan (Tony) Gonzalez; and six great grandchildren, Ian, Alison, Benjamin, Michael, Trey and Tyler. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Omar; a sister, Ruth Ross Zigler; and two brothers, Webster and John Ross. BERNETA (ADAMS) GOLDTHORPE
, 94, of Mount Carroll, formerly of Milledgeville, died Wednesday. April 9, 2003, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mount Carroll. She taught junior high school in Savanna, Mount Carroll and Milledgeville for 23 years. She and her husband owned and operated Goldthorpe's Store, Milledgeville, for many years. Mrs. Goldthorpe was born June 6, 1908, in Carroll County, the daughter of Charles and Lottie (James) Adams. She was a 1926 graduate of Mount Carroll High School and a 1928 graduate of Francis Shimer College. Mount Carroll. She married Ralph Koper Goldthorpe on June 15, 1933, in Mount Carroll. He died Nov. 9, 1973. She was a member of Milledgeville United Methodist Church, Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Carroll County Retired Teachers Association, Milledgeville Women's Club and Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed camping and traveling
Survivors include two daughters, Judith (Daniel) Oberholtzer of Chestertown Md., and Jane (Leonard) Dixon of Mount Carroll; a son, James (Patricia) Goldthorpe of Galena; five grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a sister-in law, Martha Adams of Dubuque, Iowa; an aunt; 11 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Mullen; and three brothers, Forrest, Harold and Samuel Adams.
Memorial service is at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Milledgeville United Methodist Church. Burial is at Bethel Cemetery, Milledgeville. Arrangements were completed by Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll.
RALPH GOLDTHORPE
, 66, Milledgeville, died Friday evening (Nov 9) at Community General Hospital, Sterling, after a short illness.
Mr. Goldthorpe, who was the present Village Clerk of Milledgeville, had been taken to the hospital earlier in the day.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Milledgeville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Clark J. Moushon, pastor, officiating. The body will lie in state at the Woodin Funeral Home aftaer 2:30 p.m. Sunday and on Monday at the church after 1 p.m. until the time of service. Masonic services will be at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established for the United Methodist Church.
Ralph Goldthorpe was born at Milledgeville on April 25, 1907, the son of Alvin and Grace Koper Goldthorpe. He married Berneta Adams on June 15, 1933 at Mt. Carroll.
He was a member of AF and AM 345, Bernice Chapter OES, Milledgeville Rotary Club, had served as president and secretary, had been a school bus driver for the past seven years and village clerk for eight years.
Survivors include his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Dan (Judy) Oberholtzer, Belchertown, Mass.; Mrs. Larry (Jane) Roberts, Mt. Carroll; one son, James, at home; five grandchildren, four sisters, Miss Jeanette Goldthorpe, Wenatchee, Wash.; Mrs. George (Bess) Yingling, Milledgeville; Mrs. Murial Jesperson, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Isabel Rogan, Alaska.
JAMES GRINDEY
, of Lanark, 81, died Monday, Dec. 17, 1990, at home, following an extended illness. He taught school several years and then farmed and was a carpenter, until retiring in 1972. He was a graduate of Warren High School and a 1932 graduate of Bradley University. Born May 3, 1909, at Scales Mound, he was the son of J. F. and Esther (Hicks) Grindey. He married Pearle Kniss on Feb 14, 1952. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lois (Kim) Ress of Freeport and Betty Jo Grindey of Loves Park; two granddaughters, Claire and Sara Rees; and one sister, Mary Wagner of Loves Park.
