JAMES M.HUNTER
- Few appreciate the loss of a really capable man till he has gone. While living they dwell on his foibles of which the best of men possess enough for the shafts of adverse criticism, but when he drops by the way side thoughtful ones awake to a consciousness of the real worth of one of God's gifted own. Washington Irving justly says, "The grave covers every error, buries every defect." Hon. James M. Hunter whose spirt walked out on the morning of the 28 ult. to the world of larger consciousness and of wider knowledge under the eye and guidance of a loving and merciful Father, was a man of no ordinary mold, a keen, shrewd, wise, publicest and politicain whose code was the dictum of the great O"Co_sell, who said that nothing was politically right that was morally wrong. James Hunter was on the right side of every great question agitating the public of his time. An advocate at the bar of uncommon force and magnetism being on one side of all the important cases of Carroll county and whose practice reached far beyond. A man of fine literary ability and varied reading, a charming and instructive conversationalist. A staunch friend who allowed few opportunities of showing kindess to escape him and seldom forgot an act of kindness done him, of whom an eminent minister of the east said, "He did much good and no evil." His family loved him with an affection bordering on idolatry, and evinced a ministry as helpful as it was beautiful. For 8 years he was a sufferer but bore his sufferings without a murmur and heroic fortitude and out of them God lifted him most mercifully. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Monday afternoon and was largely attended notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather. The services were conducted by the Masonic Blue Lodge with Long Commandery acting as escort. A musical quartet composed of Mes__ Hartman, Schaale, King and Miles sang several appropriate selections. "Nearer to Thee", "Ninteenth Psalm", and "Rest in Peace" to the organ accompaniment of M___ May Hammond.

Connell, The following relatives and friends from out of town attended the funeral: J. B.
