Savanna, Ill. – Joseph Hood, 54, night police officer of Savanna, was killed last night when he backed into an automobile driven by Glen Stidenberg, 24, a resident of Savanna. Officer Hood had stepped into the street to warn a passing motorist that one of the headlamps on his car was night lighted and then in stepping backward from the machine was struck by the side of the Stidenberg car. He was well and favorably known in this vicinity and deep regret was expressed over his untimely death. A jury was impaneled by Coroner J. B. Schreiter. The inquest will not be held for a few days however, as Dr. Schreiter was summoned to Darlington, Wis., owing to the death of his mother. Mr. Hood was born at Pleasant Valley April 22, 1875.
