RICHARD WILLIAM KASPAR , 63, of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida and Mount Carroll, Illinois passed away May 5, 2008 at his home in Florida. Throughout his short illness his immediate family and a vast extended network of friends and fans surrounded him. Dick mentioned that be had been so blessed and lucky during his life and had no regrets. We too are all blessed and lucky to have known him and only regret that he left us too soon. Born October 12, 1944, he grew up in Mooseheart and the South Side of Chicago. Dick launched his successful career as commodity broker at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) in 1968 and in1995, he and his wife Meg retired from the CME. Whether it was playing golf, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro, trying to catch a 5 pound bass, cheering on the Chicago Cubs or working the corn harvest in Illinois, Dick valued sharing life's pleasures with friends and family above all else. To Dick, life was too short not to be pursuing what makes you happy and he brought happiness to the lives of those within his generous orbit. He was a key fundraiser for the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association (AHIHA) and golf coach at Eastland High School in Lanark, Illinois. He is survived by his wife Meg; his children, Mike (Helen), Steve (Stacey), and Amy; granddaughter Rachel; and siblings Starlene, Pat (deceased), Jim (deceased), and George. If so desired, memorial donations in Rickup's name may be made to Caring Bridge (http://www.caringbridge.org). Without this service, Dick would have never been able to feel the love from the many lives he touched so directly and immediately. You can also go fishing, tell a good story, or play a round of golf and think of Dick.

JOHN R. KEECH , 82, retired railroad man, and for the last 15 years a resident of the city, died at his home at 1030 Fourth Avenue at 9 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 1926. When 19, he enlisted in Company I, Ninety-second Illinois Mounted Infantry. After the close of the war, he returned to Mt. Carroll where he taught school for some years. On Oct. 28, 1877 he was married to Marie Kneale. He entered the C. M. & S. P. Railroad in 1884 and was station agent at Oxford Junction until 1910, when he retired and the home was established in Cedar Rapids. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Dr. R. K. Note: The History of Carroll County, Illinois, published by Kett in 1878, gives John H. Keech’s date of birth as July 4, 1844. This obituary is lightly scanned from an old newspaper and hard to read but the 1842 date of birth is fairly clear. The American Civil War Soldiers record (found on Ancestry.com) gives his enlistment date as August 15, 1862. Which means he was 20, not 19, if he had been born in 1842, but he would have been 18, not 19, if born in 1844. It’s hard to say which date of birth is correct.

MARIE E. (KEALE) KEECH, mother of Dr. R. K. Keech and active in the Woman’s club of which she was one of the house mothers and a member of other organizations, residing at 1030 Fourth avenue southeast, died at a local hospital at 7:15 p.m. yesterday (October 29, 1930).
