JOHN GOODWIN LaCOSTE passed away Saturday evening at 7:50. He had been ill for over a year, but with heroic courage, kept at his business till within two weeks of his death. He failed rapidly toward the last; came home from Florida only two weeks before his death, utterly worn out with tuberculosis of the throat. He was conscious to the last, and his trust in his Heavenly Father was strong, so that death had no terrors for him. He said repeatedly he was so thankful that the Father let him come home to spend the last days. He studied in the Moody Institute to fit himself for home missionary work and worked in Chicago with Dan Martin until the latter's death; then finding that he must earn more, he entered various occupations till he took up the real estate business in Florida, where he did well. Those associated with him there speak in the highest and most loving terms of him. From a little boy he had a sweet way that w on everyone's love. He was born June 24, 1867, at Milledgeville, Ill., only child of Samuel Charles and Hester Amelia LaCoste. The family moved to Sterlilng in the fall of 1868, and have resided here since. He was married eighteen years ago to Mrs. Minnie Scott of Tampico, who preceded him in death nine years ago. In 1911 he married Miss Bertha Whitney of Chicago. He leaves, besides his mother and wife, two sons, Robert, now seventeen, and John Alden, two years of age. Friends showed their love and sympathy by the esquisite floral offerings, sent in such profusion, and by the attendance at the funeral. Rev. Mr. Collins of the Fourth Street Methodist church conducted impressive services. The family have the warm sympathy of all who know them.

ELIZABETH (IRWIN) LAW - The announcement last Saturday of the death of Mrs. W. T. Law was received by all friends of the family with a feeling of relief. Mrs. Law had been afflicted for many months with consumption and indeed some years ago death had marked her for a victim long before her allotted time. She spent some days the early part of the winter under treatment of Dr. Palmer, but even when the local physicians could not help her, it was evident that no human agency could save her life. With this knowledge, it was hard indeed for the husband and the interesting family of children to see the wife and mother gradually sink and each day grow a little worse until the end finally came last Saturday afternoon, February 11, 1893, about 2 o’clock. And yet their sore trial is tempered with the knowledge that her sufferings are over. What makes this affliction more painful is the fact that the oldest son, Irvie, has been bedridden for many months and all during his mother’s worst sickness and death he lay a helpless invalid and is still in the same condition. Mrs. Law, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Irwin, was born in Argyle, New York July 12, 1852. At an early age she came to Savanna with her parents and September 14, 1871 was married to William T. Law. They resided here until 1889 when the family removed to Kansas but only remained away one year, when they returned to Savanna and have since resided here, Mr. Law continuing in the grocery business. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the family residence, on Fifth Street, conducted by Rev. Griswold and Rev. Hanson. There was a very large attendance of the relatives and friends and the remains were laid in the Savanna Cemetery.
