I have been unable to find her obituary. The funeral of the late Mrs. Sarah Markley was held from the Christian funeral chapel in Mount Carroll on Sunday at 12:30. Due to the muddy condition of the roads, the arrangements were changed from the Etnyre home to the chapel, and from there the funeral cortege went to the Woodland church where Rev. Those attending the casket were friends from the last thirty-two years, they being John Dale, Sr., William Lartz, Willian Mahr, William Libberton, John Hook and Oscar Linker. MARY (HALLOWELL) McCOY - Mrs. Mary McCoy was born in Lancaster county, Pa., Sept. 17th, 1848, and died at her home near Lanark, Ill., Aug. 29, 1895, age 46years, 11months and 12 days. She came to Winnebago county, Ill., from Lancaster county, Pa., with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hallowell, in the year 1857, and after a residence in that county of four years, she came with her family to Rock Creek township where she has continued to resided until her departure to that heavenly country where changes of residence are unknown. She was married in the year 1867 to Mr. W. F. M. McCoy, also of Rock Creek Twp., and their married life of about 16 years was a most happy one, but about 12 years ago the devoted husband was taken away by the All-wise Father, and his mortal remains laid to rest in the quiet city of the dead. God blessed this union with the gift of one son, George, who is with us today. May the blessings of the Heavenly Father be his this day as he lays by the side of father, the mother who loved him so well. Mary was the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hallowell, whose family consisted of 6 children, 3 of whom, with mother, have proceeded her to the bourne from which no traveler returneth, and father, brother and sister- Peter and Ida Hallowell-. are the only remaining members. God grant that one day they may meet when all earth's trials and duties are over to part no more in the land of beauty and rest. Sister Mary McCoy became a member of the Christian church when about 16 years of age, or about two years before she was married, thus having served her Master in this life about 20 years. She was baptized by Elder John Smith, who is held in sacred memory by so many in this place as a devoted servant of God and kind christian friend. In her christian life she was quiet and unobtrusive. She was like the beautiful flowers that bloom and scatter their fragrance in some quiet sheltered glade of the woodland. Her little home her husband built near Lanark was to her more than many a palace is to many of earth's great ones. She served he God humbly, yet reverently, and with becoming fear, and was confident of a glorious welcome into the land of light and liberty. With her "the former things are passed away and all things are become new."
