JAMES McCREEDY
- The following is taken from the Saline County Gazette, published at Saline County Nebraska. The deceased will be remembered by many of the old settlers, around Milledgeville as he was one of the early settlers of tbis village.
On June 23, 1899, James McCreedy departed this life after suffering for about a year with a cancer. He was born in Cayuga Co., N. Y near Victory, July 10, 1822, and had he lived until July 10, he would have been 77 years old. He was married to Sarah A. Fields June 2, 1842. To them were born 4 children, two of whom are living at the present time. He spent 3 years in the service of his country as Orderly Sergeant of Co. H, 55th Illinois Infantry. He came to this community in the fall of 1870, and was county superintendent of public schools four years. He was a member of the M. E. Church and president of the board of trustees ever since the cburch was organized.
The funeral services took place at the M. E. Church, Saturday June 24, at two o'clock p. m. conducted by the G. A. R. Post at this place. The sermon was preached by the pastor Rev. W. H. Simpson, assisted by Elder Horney. The text was from Psalms chosen by the deceased some time ago. Appropriate music was furnished by the choir, Father McCreedy was always, interested in educational aud religious work and one of the things he lamented during his late illness was his inability to attend church. He bore his sufferings patiently and at last had the full assurance that his Heavenly father had not cast him off in the time of old age, or forsaken him when his strength failed.
GENE McCUE
- 10 year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Patrick McCue of Savanna, died in the Savanna hospital shortly after 7:00 Friday morning [Oct. 13, 1939]. He was taken seriously ill September 27 and attending physicians pronounced it a blood clot on the brain. The boy had been unconscious since that time. Funeral services were conducted Sunday with burial in the Savanna cemetery. Survivors are the parents; one sister, Jeanette; the maternal grandfather, Phillip Reitz; the paternal grandmother, Mr. Katherine McCue of Savanna.

MRS. MARVIN McCUE
- Service for Mrs. Marvin McCue, who died Sunday in Mercy Hospital, Clinton, Iowa, was held this afternoon in First Methodist Church. Burial was in Savanna Township Cemetery. Mrs. McCue was 52. She had lived in Savanna 38 years and was employed at Meeker's Sea Food Inn for 14 years.

PATRICK A. McCUE
, 79, of Lanark, died Tuesday Nov,.27, at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Mount Carroll.
Born March 26, 1928, in Mount Carroll, he was the son of Dorothy (McCue) Bishop. He was raised by his great-aunt and uncle, Sadie (Elliott) Law and Chester Law. He married Dorothy Knauer May 14, 1949. He graduated in 1946 from Savanna High School. He farmed for more than 50 years in Lanark. He was a member of the Carroll County Farm Bureau and served several terms as a director before and after serving as president for 12 years. During his presidency, the County Farm Bureau received three President's Awards , bronze eagles, which are the highest annual award for a County Farm Bureau of its size. He served as an alternate on the Carroll County Soil and Water Conservation District Board and on the FS Board. He was treasurer of the County Economic Development Committee and served on its predecessor organization. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mount Carroll and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark where he served on many committees and as president of the church council. He enjoyed dancing, visits over coffee at the restaurant and going to Texas in the winter. This past year he also enjoyed reading and watching the History and Discovery channels. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Diane (Jim) Komiskey of Lanark and Charlotte (Ron) Atherton of Thomson; three grandchildren, Kathleen (Steffin) Griswold, Martin (Dawn) Komiskey and Ryan Atherton; and three stepgrandchildren, Jacob, Jordee and Jace Watkins. He was preceded by his mother and great-aunt and uncle. Services were Saturday Dec. 1, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark.

H.J. MERITHEW
, who with his wife, was a resident of this city for several months about five years ago, died at Peoria a few days ago. Mr. Merithew was an old soldier and when here was afflicted with St. Vitus dance, which disease was indirectly the cause of his death.

- Little Elkie Micke Dies in Wagon She Was Born In
Infant Born on Elkhorn Banks Died at Freeport
The month old child of Mr. and Mrs. William Micke died Friday at Freeport. The little child was born in a wagon on the banks of the Elkhorn near this city and was christened "Elkie". Its parents were on their way home to Beloit and had gotten this far, driving overland, when the little one was born.

WILLIAM MILROY
, was born in Glenville, Schenectady county, New York, September 15th, 1829, and died at his home in Wysox township, Carroll county, Illinois, February 8th, 1904, at 3:30 a.m.. aged 74 years, 4 months and 23 days. He was married to Harriet Mildred Potter December 20th, 1854. To this union six children were born. All survive him except George Potter Milroy, who preceded him to that future home by 14 months and one day. He united with the Presbyterian church at Glenville, Schenectady county, New York in 1857. He came to Illinois in 1860 and united with the United Brethren at the Union church in 1878, remaining faithful to the end. He was one of the three on the building committee, consisting of Tilson Aldrich, Byron Fletcher and William Milroy, to erect the Union church and was elected as treasurer and collecting steward. He was a good citizen, always having the best interests of the community at heart, and a kind and loving husband and father, always sacrificing for the welfare of his loved ones and his neighbors. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife and five children, Isabella L. Milroy who lives at the old home, John E. Milroy of Coleta, Whiteside county; William H. Milroy, Wysox township, Carroll county; Mrs. Ellen A. Meyers, Morill, Brown county, Kansas and Sidney B. T. Milroy who resides on the old homestead. The funeral services were held from the Union church on Wednesday forenoon at 10:30, Rev. J. W. McKitrick officiating. The interment was made in the West Elkhorn cemetery.

WILLIAM ARNOLD MILROY
, was born April 17, 1890 and died August 11, 1906, aged 16 years, 3 months 24 days. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Milroy. For the past five months he had been afflicted with that dreaded disease, inflammatory rheumatism, which terminated in dropsy. At times his sufferings were intense, but he bore it all with patience, thinking to shield it from the anxious eyes of his parents, who were ever watchful of his every comfort. But God in His infinite mercy, has called our loved one home, and there he will patiently wait until to us. The message says, "Come" His rest is sweet, he suffers no more, From all pain and sorrow is free. He is now with loved ones in the home of the blest, Dear Jesus to dwell forever with "Thee." Funeral services were held at the house at 1:30 and at Union church at 2 p.m. Rev. McKitrick officiating. Interment at the cemetery nearby.

EDWARD MOFFETT
, 76, passed away at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon, at the August Hartman home where he been cared for since last Christmas. Death followed an illness of several months.
Mr. Moffett was born March 13, 1867, on a farm near Lanark, Carroll county, the son of John and Sarah Moffett. He came to Shannon in 1900, and had resided here since. He was unmarried and the last member of his family.
Surviving are two nephews, Emory D. and Robert W. Moffett, both of Springfield, Mo. and a cousin Thorne Moffett, of Cleveland, Ohio.
Funeral arrangements are to be made following the arrival of his nephews from Springfield, Mo. Wednesday morning.

MARSHAL MOFFETT
, a well known citizen of Lanark died at his home in that city on July 4th of lung and heart trouble. Nearly twenty years ago he was engaged as drug clerk in Lanark in Alvaro Shumway's drug store, after which he went to Grundy Center, Iowa. He returned to Lanark some time ago and was welcomed back by his many friends. Mr. Moffett had been ailing for the past two years more or less. About four months ago he grew worse and was compelled to resign his position as clerk in Hogan's drug store. After a very severe spell of sickness he became better and was able to be around, but again grew worse until the end which came last Thursday forenoon. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church in Lanark Sunday afternoon by Rev. Beers and at the Grave by the Masonic brethren of Lanark accompanied by the Women's Relief Corps.

ADDIE J. (REED) MORRISON
, daughter of Mr. adn Mrs. J.M. Reed of this place (Carroll Co) died at her home in Harlan Iowa Sunday Nov. 11, 1894. Mrs. Morrison was born at Polo IL April 28, 1864. Soon afterwards her parents moved to Sterling IL where she was reared and educated in the home and town of Christianity's influence. In 1889 she, with her parents came to reside in Milledgeville. It was here she was happily converted and baptized into full fellowship of the Baptist church by Elder Mason. She soon became a faithful and efficient worker in the Master's Kingdom. It was Oct. 19, 1892 God choose her to be the helpmate of Rev. W.M. Morrison, then pastor of the Baptist Church at Hoopston IL where they resided until a call came for them to take the pastorage of the First Baptist Church of Geneseo. They remained there one year and next took the pastorage of the Baptist Church at Harlan Iowa. It was here where death claimed its victim.
As a daughter she was the parental delight, bright, winsome and the very embodiment of sunshine. As a wife she was one adopted to the high calling God had for her. Her home was a religious one. Her death was sudden, she having been sick only a short time. But God knew what was best. She leaves a mother, father, husband and two little children. Also a large circle of friends. Burial was in Polo. The funeral conduced by Elder Mason of Amboy who was her pastor and assisted by the Revs. Baldwin and Noftsinger.
MICHAEL R. MOWEN
, 56, of Winnebago, died Wednesday evening, March 15, 2006, in Rockford Memorial Hospital, after a sudden illness. Born January 31, 1950, in Freeport, the son of Russell and Dorothy (Burkholder) Mowen. Graduated from Lanark High School in 1968. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, spending 13 months in Viet Nam. Mike played collegiate football four years having graduated first from Rock Valley College in 1973 and then received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from University of Wisconsin, in Superior, Wis. in1975. Mike married Gwen Holesinger on August 10, 1973, in Lanark. He taught physical education at Holy Family School for 1 1/2 years, and then came to Winnebago High School in 1977 where he taught political science, American government, health, and physical education. Mike coached football and wrestling, and throughout his 28 years also coached track and softball. Family was number one to Mike; he loved attending his girls' sporting events and rarely missed any. A devoted coach, believing in hard work, Mike encouraged Winnebago students both on and off the field. He continued to follow and support "his kids" long after their graduation. Mike is lovingly survived by his wife, Gwen Mowen of Winnebago; his girls, Michelle (Adam) Cunningham of Hinckley, Melissa and Mindy Mowen of Winnebago; grandson, Michael Cunningham of Hinckley; brother, Mark (Nancy) Mowen of Rockton; sister, Marsha (Jr.) Ellingberg of Stevens Point, Wis.; nephews, Matthew, Michael; nieces, Marissa and Megan; aunts and uncles, Vola (deceased) and Harlan Diehl of Phoenix, Ariz., Narion and Dick Burkholder of St. Peters, Mo., and Fran and Dell Jacobs of Freeport; and father and mother-in-law, Vernon and Mary Holesinger of Mount Carroll. His parents precede Mike in death.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006, in the Winnebago High School Gymnasium, 200 E. McNair Road, Winnebago, with the Rev. Steve P. Shullanberger, pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Winnebago, officiating. Visitations were from 1-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006 in the Winnebago High School Gymnasium. At Mike's request, cremation rites will be accorded. In lieu of flowers, the Mike Mowen Memorial Fund has been established at First National Bank & Trust Company, 500 N. Elida St., Winnebago, IL 61088.

CHARLES R. MOWERY
, 1335 W. Stover Street, died this morning, December 22, 1970 in his home following an extended illness. Mr. Mowery, a retired farmer, was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Born in Carroll County February 16, 1888, he was the son of William and Emma (Hansen) Mowery. On January 29, 1914, he married Fern Mae Bowman in Carroll County. She died October 15, 1944. He then married Mina Anderson November 17, 1945 in Freeport. Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Orville (Pauline) Noller of Lena; four grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Mrs. Earl (Edna) Wilken of Lanark; and three brothers, George of Strawberry, Arizona, Francis of Torrence, California, and Russell of Norwalk, California. Two sons, a sister, and three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Walker Mortuary. The Rev. Eldon Schriver, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lanark Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. A memorial fund for the church has been established

FERN (BOWMAN) MOWERY
, 48, a well known and respected citizen of this community, passed away at a Freeport hospital Tuesday morning following an illness of several months.
Mrs. Mowery was the former Fern Bowman and was born July 25, 1896, in Lima township, the daughter of John and Amelia Bowman.
Mrs. Mowery was a woman of pleasing personality and had a large circle of friends who will mourn her passing.
Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Noller of Lena; and a son, LaMoine Mowery of Freeport and two brothers, Clayton Bowman of Lanark and Clarence Bowman of Freeport.
Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Bethel church. Rev. Paul Church officiated and burial was made in Lanark cemetery.
Fern Bowman was born in Lima Township, Carroll County, July 25, 1896, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bowman. (Alice Horner’s note: Her mother’s maiden name was Amelia Traum.) She leaves her husband, a daughter and a son, Mrs. Pauline Noller of Lena and LeMoine Mowery, who resides on a farm near Freeport. Two brothers survive, Clarence Bowman of Freeport and Clayton Bowman of Lanark.
Funeral Service (2nd) =Funeral services for the late Mrs. Charles Mowery, 48, who passed away yesterday, October 17, 1944, at a Freeport hospital, will be held at 2 o’clock Thursday afternoon at Evangelical Church. Rev. Paul V. Church will conduct the services and interment will be made in Lanark Cemetery.

MINA JUNE MOWERY,
1335 W. Stover St., Freeport, who was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Martha Circle of the church, died Sunday morning in Freeport Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. (The Social Security Death Index gives the date as July 1974.)
She was born June 26, 1904 in Lanark, daughter of Orr and Ida (Horner) Anderson. On Nov. 17, 1945 she was married to Charles Mowery in Freeport. He died December 22, 1970. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Orville (Pauline) Noller of Lena; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother, Walter Marsh, and a sister, Mrs. Harvey (Martha) Voss.
Funeral service will be at 1:30p.m. in Walker Mortuary. The Rev. George Jacobs, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lanark Cemetery.
