MICHAEL NESBITT - The Long and useful life of Michael Nesbitt, our aged townsman came to a peaceful end Saturday night about ten o'clock at his home in East Savanna and the soul of the patriarch returned to the God who gave it. Mr. Nesbitt who was ninety-one years of age, was in feeble health for over a year. Day by day the sands of life ebbed more slowly and the slender thread of life grew more frail, until Saturday evening the golden cord was severed and the book of life on earth was closed. The death of Mr. Nesbitt removes from our midst one of the pioneers who had seen our city grow from a wilderness to its present state. He was one of the sturdy men of the past and knew the hardships of pioneer days, but had the rugged constitution and the will to press onward and to become a useful citizen of the community. For many years he lived in our midst, and was honored and revered. He had the characteristics of his race and always had a pleasant and cheering greeting for friends and neighbors. He was kindness personified, honorable and honest in his dealing and stood high among his fellowmen who will always hold in their hearts a kindly remembrance of their friend. Mr. Nesbitt was born in Bannebay, Ireland, in 1821, and was married in 1845 to Miss Ellen Cox. In 1846 the young couple came to America and for two years resided in Reading, Pa. They then came to Illinois which has since been the family home and where the wife and mother passed to her reward in 1878, at the age of 66 years. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Nesbitt, five of whom survive both parents as follows. Charles of Zion, John of Oklahoma, Thomas of this city, Mrs. Lincoln Paisley of St. Lawrence, S. D., and Nellie at home. Two sons and one daughter died in infancy. Mr. Nesbitt was a member of the Presbyterian church and always endeavored to abide by the Golden rule. To his children who cared for him so tenderly in his declining years the sympathy of many friends is extended.

SARAH CATHARINE NUMER - Died near Mount Carroll, Carroll Co. Illinois on the 2nd of March (1856) Sarah Catharine, infant-daughter of Adam (Christopher) and Susanna (Miller) Numer, aged 3 years 4 months and 6 days. This death was caused by one of those terrible accidents, which, alas, to often occur and should be a warning to all parents. The mother was boiling soap out of doors, and in the momentary absence of her the child was getting too near the fire, so that her clothes took fire, and before it could be put out, she was so badly burnt as to cause death in about 24 hours. Funeral-text: Luke 18: 15-17. It is the parents' wish to insert the following Lines.

Farewell, farewell, my parents dear,
I am not dead, but sleeping here;
Prepare for death, for die you must,
And with your daughter sleep in dust.
Think, parents dear, buy grief oppress'd,
That in the gave I did find rest;
My spirit rest with God on high,
Where you may meet me by and by.
Then oh dear parents, do not weep,
I am not dead, but here I sleep;
Until the resurrection-day,
And with my Saviour I do stay.
