Residents of the Hitt community are rejoicing over announcement from the office of John A Wieland, state superintendent of public instruction, that the Hitt school has been awarded a certificate of recognition. Word that this school had been son honored was received by County Superintendent of Schools, Lawrence E. Brudi of Mt. Carroll Friday. A program to celebrate the recognition and receive the official certificate may be held in the near future. There are 28 pupils enrolled in the school, with Thurston Sarber as teacher. The directors, who have done a great deal toward bringing this school up to the high standard are Elbert Barthel, Howard Slifer and RObert Eastabrooks.

Thurston Sarber, teacher of the Hitt school, entertained the members of the 8th grade at a 6:30 dinner in his home Friday evening. Following the dinner games were enjoyed during the evening. The guests included Jasper Locey, Ruth Trimble, Alma Mae Schryver, Margaret Moore, Barbara Stoner and Eleanor Colliflower.
