John Sharp found this article in the Lanark Gazette 13 June 1900 - The reporter seems to have missed one graduate - Miss Lillian Risley.
"The twenty-fifth annual commencement and classes exercises of the Lanark High School , which occurred at the Methodist Church last Wednesday evening was in point of excellence and attendance perhaps the most successful ever held there. Long before 8 o’clock the hour set for the commencement of the program the edifice was packed to the limit with admiring friends of the graduates. Seven young ladies and one young gentleman compose the class viz: Rose Rahn, Nora M. Beyers, Mrytle Rose, Grace M. Wolf, Harriet Redline, Bertha M. Dickens, Lillian Risley and Howard R. Sword. The room was beautifully decorated, the class colors green and white predominating. The first musical number was a march executed on the pipe organ by Miss Leona Hess followed by a chorus of the high school pupils. The class history was then given by Rose M. Rahn and responded to by Nora M. Beyers, who also recited the class poen. Each one of the graduates gave either an essay, oration or recitation, all of which were studiously prepared and faultlessly executed. The music by the F.A. Redline’s mandolin orchestra was very good, and elicited much favorable comment. Presentation of the diplomas was by L.H. Sprecher, president of the board of education. A vocal solo by Mrs. J.L. McClure which by the way, was vigorously encored ended the evening’s entertainment. "

The Twenty-Sixth Annual Commencement exercises of the Lanark High School were held this week at the Christian church which was artistically and appropriately decorated with the class colors of the graduates blue and gold. The class this year consists of thirteen members , eleven young ladies and two young gentlemen, who go out of our institution of learning with the inscription emblazoned upon their banner” Excellence or Nothing”. The concernment of the patrons of our High School and the admiring friends of Class of 1901 was manifest by the immense assembly that crowed the church last night to attend the class exercises. Those who had to stand for want of a seat and those who occupied the windows from the outside were the recipients of many condolatory remarks. The class exercises while somewhat lengthy and fatiguing were of a high character and indicative of the preparation on the part of the graduate and careful training on the part of their instructors. Each participant of the evening program did splendidly and won merited credits; these young people did not disappoint their friends, but rather exceeded their fondest anticipations. All are worthy of the hearty congratulations extended them by friends, teachers, and acquaintances. We have reason to be proud of the class of 1901, and assign them a high place among the honored classes that have graduated before them. We refrain from all particularizations, for what can be affirmed can be affirmed of all. The following is the program of the class exercises held last night:
“The Class History” was given by the Misses Grace Bailey and Lillian Sword.
Oration – “The American Public School” by Ora Puterbaugh.
Recitation –“ The Fight with The Aurochs” , by Dorothy Werntz
Essay – “Lorenzo de Medici “, by Christine Franck
Soliloquy – “ Looking Backward,”by Bertha Hileman
Oration - “Character,” by Fred Deihl
Recitation – “Racing with the Storm,” by Ella Miller
Oration – “ A glimpse of the 19th Century, “ by Harry Itayre
Presentation of the Mantle to the Class of 1902 – Fred Diehl
Acceptance of the Mantle from the Class of 1902, Pauline Risely
Class Prophecy - by the Misses Emma Tallman and Lenore Pratt
Presentation of the Gifts - by the Misses: Bess Valentine and Bertha Dicken.
Class Song – by the Class of 1901.
The annual sermon was preached on Sunday night by the Rev. Colver of the Lutheran Church, and contained many wholesome and applicable principles. Last Friday evening a reception and banquet was given in honor of the graduates by the classes of 1902, 03 and 04 at the school house. A pleasant, profitable and memorable evening it proved to be. The graduates and under graduates all had a good old fashion evening together. Tonight will occur the commencement exercises proper. That famous and popular lecturer, Mr. DeWitt Miller will give his favorite lecture: “The Uses of Ugliness”. The board of education will present the diplomas and the high school pupils will sing a “Good Night Chorus”. Thus will pass another of our commencement exercises and we take the liberty and pleasure of of extending the appreciation and congratulations of the district to the class of 1901, the skilled faculty and the board of education for another year of successful school work.

1903 Lanark High School Commencement Exercises
The twenty eight annual commencement exercises of the Lanark High School held at the Methodist Church Friday evening were a decided success from every point of view . The rendition of the program began with a march on the piano by George W. Wales during which the thirds year class ushered in the members of the European Quartette, teachers and graduates. The divine blessing was invoked by the Reverend George Bellinger, and after a song by the quartette , the Address of Welcome, in well chosen words was delivered by Miss Anna Harwood .
Following came Miss Edna Hawk with an oration on: Imagination” which was nicely delivered and gave evidence of careful preparation. Harry Lowman’s theme “ The Price of Anarchy “ was given in excellent style. His gestures were easy and natural and he seemed at home to the stage. To the lovers of music Miss Herrington’s address on “The Influence of Music “ was very interesting . Miss Delta Rowland’s oration on” Queen Victoria” was very nice indeed. She traced the queens life from childhood to its close so accurately the audience could not help but draw a correct picture of her. Harry Rahn chose for his theme “Opportunities” and a fruitful subject it proved to be , full of food for thought. Miss Orpha Grey’s oration on “ Our “ Memorial’s” was unique and proved the young lady to be possessed of rare descriptive powers. Miss Lottie Boyle’s description of “ The Angel of the Battlefield “ was excellent an her manner of delivery several points above par.
The “ Class Poem” by Miss Florence Bailey was both interesting and amusing . Ray Hixon, the mantle bearer, gave an encouraging talk to the class of 04. Among other things he emphasized that a good stiff backbone is one of the requisites to success in life. Miss Blanche Dubbel of the class of 04 received the mantel with a well- worded response. Louis Sprecher’s “Class History “ dated from “ Hady’s Reign” to the present time was very amusing. Miss Florence Hess gave the Class Prophecy. She had a certain kind of camera plate which after breathing on would tell the future. Some of the futures were almost enviable and all laughable The music by the Ladies European Quartette of Chicago was excellent and was liberally interspersed throughout the program. The presentation of the diplomas was made by Mr. W. L. Franck, President of the Board of Education. After which the benediction was pronounced by the Reverend Bellinger and the twenty –eight annual commencement of the Lanark High School passed into history.

Lanark Gazette June 1, 1906 Graduating Exercises
The thirtieth annual Commencement exercises of the Lanark High School were held at the Methodist Church last Thursday evening May 31 when the class of nine seven young ladies and two young gentlemen Viz.: Maude Riley, Ivy Nichol, Ida R. Burger, Ella Schriner, Evelyn Bermond, Maude R. Rahn, Belva E. Snively, Ralph R. Snively and Claude M. Wild received their well earned diplomas. The attendance was very large and every seat in the spacious auditorium being occupied with a standing room in the rear at a premium. The rostrum was handsomely decorated with festoons in the class colors old gold against black. In the rear suspended against the pipe organ was the class motto: “Knowledge is Power”. In large gold letters while artistically grouped about the stage was the class flower the lily of the valley, together with ferns, palms etc all arrayed in excellent taste. At 8:30 the Wales orchestra played a march and the graduate’s files in and took their places on the stage escorted by the members of the class of 07 and followed by the teachers. After another selection by the orchestra and invocation of the divine blessing by the Reverend Jaggard, the program proper began with an oration on “Graft” by Ralph R. Snively . The orator took for illustrations the recent disclosures in the insurance world, the astounding revelations regarding the beef trust Etc. The subject was timely, the address carefully prepared and excellently delivered. Next in order of recitation” The Heart of Old Hickory” by Ivy Nichol, it was rather on the pathetic order and supposedly a conversation between a newsboy intensely loyal to his friend Skinny and the Governor of Tennessee. The selection was carefully memorized and flawlessly delivered. The “Class Poem” by Ida R. Burger was exceedingly well-done consisting mainly of humorous thrusts at her fellow classmates all however in the kindest spirit. Her effort provoke much merriment and at the same time showed considerable poetic talent.
The Class Will by Maude Riley was a series of good natured slams and bangs at other members of the class which were very amusing to those acquainted with various class predilections. Her delivery was perfect. Belva E. Snively gave the Class History biographing briefly the class and the various members of the class from primary room to commencement. Her part was well taken and admirably executed. The Class Prophecy was an invocation in the shape of a little sketch in two acts by Evelyn Bermond , Maud Rahn and Claud M. Wild. The scene was laid in Denver in the year 1920 and was suppose to represent a meeting of the three at which time the fortunes and misfortunes of the class of 06 were discussed. It was quite amusing and well received by the large audience. The Valedictory was given by Ella M. Schriner the Star member of the class. In a graceful manner the young lady delivered the final words of farewell to the board of education , superintendent , teachers, and classmates ending with the handing down of of the mantle to the class of 07 to which Miss Beatrice Drenner in behalf of the class, responded feelingly. The presentation of the diplomas was by Dr. T. I. Packard president of the Board of Education gave an address to the class which accompanied the act and was full of kindly advice and sound to the core without question the best ever heard on the subject. The music by the Wales Orchestra Mrs. Grace Reynolds Squires and Guy Wolf soloist and quartette composed of Misses Harrington, Risely, Sheller and Rowland was of high order and very pleasing and was vigorously applauded and obliged to respond with encores. The Reverend Z. T. Livengood pronounced the benediction which ended the program.
