1981 Spencer-Benham Reunion
Contributed and transcribed by Judy Witt

On June 21, 1981, 128 relatives and friends joined together at Montmorency School for the 84th consecutive Spencer-Benham Reunion. President Ralph Witt called the meeting to order, led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and led in singing of “God Bless America.” After a prayer, all enjoyed a delicious pot luck dinner. Betty Scykes wrote a poem named Father and it was read in honor of all fathers present on this Father Day, 1981.

The secretary’s and treasure’s reports were read and approved. Our most cherished member present was Myrtle (Spencer) Spencer, daughter of Adelbert and Bertha (Johnson) Spencer. She presented a silver spoon to our youngest member present , Shannon Becker. Shannon was born on March 18, 1981, and is the daughter of Daryl and Linda Becker, granddaughter of Barbara King, and great granddaughter of Margaret Ulrich. Those traveling the farthest were Frank and Doris Matuska and children, Kelly, Frankie, Helen, and Evelyn. They made a 1000-mile trip from North Carolina to attend the reunion. Mrs. Myrtle Spencer (Spencer) was given a gift as the member with most grandchildren present – 7 children, 16 grandchildren, 13 grandchildren.

It was moved and seconded to hold next year’s reunion on the Sunday before Father’s Day at Montmorency School if possible. It was also moved and seconded to pay $30.95 for repair of the amplifier. The current officers were retained for another year. They are:

Many family members and friends brought their musical instruments and this was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Running games and Frisbee throws were enjoyed by all—young and old. A raffle of a camera and afghan was held and $46 was raised.

The afternoon was rounded out with a vocal version of the Lord’s Prayer by Terry Huskisson and ice cream for all.

Respectfully submitted
