On Sunday, June 27, about 110 friends and relatives met at Montmorency School for the Spencer-Benham Reunion. Ralph Witt, president, called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. The singing of “God Bless America” was followed by a prayer. Then all enjoyed a delicious pot luck dinner.
Myrtle (Spencer) Spencer was the most cherished (oldest) member present. She presented a spoon to the youngest member present, Ryan Lee Whittington, son of Robert and Colleen Whittington, grandson of Bob and Loris (Spencer) Whittington, who was born April 23, 1982. Lori and Jim Olson traveled farthest from Reedsburg, Wisconsin.
There was no old business. New business discussed concerned the possibility of holding the reunion outside the Sterling-Rock Falls area. It was decided to let the officers decide where and when to hold next year’s reunion. BUT it must be in the Sterling-Rock Falls area.
Election of officers: Vada Waites—president; Linda Becker—vice president; Betty Scykes—secretary-treasurer. No one would volunteer for recreation director, so the officers are to do it. Note that later Dave and Kayla Knute volunteered to run the children’s games. The meeting was closed.
After the meeting, games, races, and penny digs were held for children. Frisbee throws and softball was also available. The annual bingo game provided entertainment inside and prizes for bingo were donated by many people. Raffles were held to help raise money. Kim Spencer, Judy Spencer, and Ralph and Judy Witt donated raffle prizes. Fun and fellowship were enjoyed by all. Music and ice cream rounded out the afternoon.
Respectfully submitted
Judy Witt—Secretary-Treasurer
