To The
Spencer-Benham Family Reunions

1984 Spencer-Benham Reunion
Contributed and transcribed by Judy Witt

On Sunday, June 17th, 1984, about 77 friends and relatives met at Montmorency School for the 87th consecutive Spencer-Benham Reunion. Vada Waites, president, called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the singing of God Bless America. Then a pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all.

The minutes were read and approved. Myrtle (Spencer) Spencer was the most cherished (oldest) member present. She was presented with a Spencer-Benham cup. She presented the traditional spoon to the youngest member present Christina Huskisson, daughter of Sherry and Terry Huskisson, Sherry being the daughter of Bob and Norma McCoy. The families traveling the farthest were: Mr. and Mrs. Bob McCoy and John, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Truninger and family, and Kathy Clark, all from Pleasant Hill, Missouri. There was a tie for having 4 generations present and they were: Myrtle (Spencer) Spencer, Norma McCoy, Sherry Huskisson, Christina Huskisson. The others were Mrs. Charles Spencer, Vada Waites, Barbara Curtis, and Michelle Curtis.

There was no old business. The new business was where and when the reunion will be held for next year. The decision was voted to be held at Nims Park in Rock Falls, Illinois on June 9th, 1985 at 12 o’clock sharp. The officers remain the same with Vada Waites President, Betty Scykes Vice President, Bonnie Ayala Secretary-Treasurer.

A poem was submitted by Betty Scykes for fathers on Father’s Day. Plus there was a special Father’s Day cake to be served with the traditional ice cream.

The meeting was closed to enjoy some live music performed by several family members. Games and raffles were enjoyed by all. All the prizes were donated by family members. Thank you very much! Some were sold by a silent auction to help raise money for our future reunions. Several games were also played to help raise money.

The day was rounded off with music, care, and ice cream.

Respectfully Submitted by
Bonnie Ayala, Secretary-Treasurer
