On Sunday, June 9th, 1985, about 51 relatives and friends gathered at Nims Park in Rock Falls for the 88th consecutive Spencer-Benham Reunion. Vada Waites, president, called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was said and God Bless America was sung. Everyone enjoyed a pot luck dinner.
The minutes were read and approved. Most cherished (oldest) member Myrtle (Spencer) Spencer was presented with a Spencer-Benham cup. She presented the traditional spoon to the youngest member present Jacob Ryan Williams, son of Dennis and Jill (Bruns) Williams, grandson of Glenn and Dorothy Bruns, great grandson of Arthur and Hazel (Spencer) Bruns, great great grandson of Adelbert and Bertha (Johnson) Spencer. The families traveling the farthest were Doris (Spencer) and Frank Matuska and Chester and Tina (Matuska) Peeler. They traveled from Blacksburg, North Carolina. There was a tie again for having 4 generations present: Myrtle Spencer, Loris Whittington, Connie Fikter, and Lisa Fikter; Lenna Spencer, Betty Sykes, Lori Olson, and Sandra Olson.
New officers were elected: Doris Spencer, President; Maxine Spencer, Vice-President; Kim Spencer, Secretary-Treasurer; Dorothy Bruns and Jill Williams, Games Committee. Next reunion will be held at Nims Park in Rock Falls, Illinois on June 22th, 1986.
Letters were read from farther away relatives who could not attend. The meeting was closed and games for kids and adults were played. Raffles were also held.
