BEARDSTOWN - Ruth Ida Bates, 92, of Beardstown died Saturday, June 19, 2004, at Heritage Manor South.
Born Sept. 25, 1911, in Scott County, to Joe and Ida May Tash Six, she married Charles Bates on Dec. 26, 1938, in Palmyra, Mo. He died Feb. 25, 1969.
She also was preceded in death by one brother, three sisters, and two stepdaughters, Marjorie Anderson and Mae Brockhouse.
Surviving are one daughter, Marilyn Bates Day of Beardstown; one granddaughter; one stepgranddaughter.
A bookkeeper, she worked for Farm Bureau in Jacksonville from 1929 to 1938; Glenn Services from 1954 to 1962; and Kline Department Store from 1969 to 1978.
She was a member of First Christian Church in Beardstown.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Oxville Cemetery near Bluffs.

Beardstown - Lorna "Allene" Becker, 86, of Beardstown died Monday, July 28, 2003, at her home. She was born July 7, 1917, in Browning, the daughter of James Whitcomb and Vera Hollenback Reiley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton O. Becker in 1969 and a daughter, Holly Swanson. Mrs. Becker graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles in 1934 and earned a degree as a licensed vocational nurse in Los Altos, Calif. She was a charge nurse at a nursing home in California for 10 years. She later co-owned and operated Second Hand Rose in Beardstown. Survivors: two daughters, Kathleen (husband, Allan) Allar of Beardstown and Barbara Kidder Fox of Rochester, Ind.; a son, Hayes B. Becker of Macomb; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Orrin Reiley of Buellton, Calif.; and two sisters, Metta (husband, Harold "Bud") Landes of Beardstown and Jeanette Haig of Magnolia. BEARDSTOWN - Christine C. Belville, 76, of 801 E. Third St. died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 1997, at Passavant Hospital in Jacksonville. Born Aug. 14, 1921, in Browning to William and Caroline Himmel Harris, she married Perry "Tater" Belville on Sept. 1, 1936. He died June 26, 1992. She also was preceded in death by three daughters, three grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters. Surviving are four sons, Larry of Beardstown, Robert Wayne Sr. and Jackie, both of Rushville and Dennis Sr. of Pleasant View; three daughters, Janet Belville of Beardstown, Sandra Jockisch of Vermont and Carolyn Barrett of Jacksonville; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Zelma Weishaar of Browning. BEARDSTOWN - Dorothy Belville, 80, formerly of 617 March St. died Sunday, July 27, 1997, at Heritage Manor East. Born March 25, 1917, in Bushnell to Sidney Calvin and Stella Anita Mikesell DeWitt, she married Hallie Belville on June 16, 1940, in Palmyra, Mo. He died March 22, 1985. She also was preceded in death by three sisters. Surviving are one stepdaughter, Winifred Sigel of Oak Park; three brothers, Sidney DeWitt Jr. of Browning, Jack DeWitt of Springfield and Thomas DeWitt Sr. of Beardstown; one sister, Maxine DeWitt of Beardstown; and several nieces and nephews. During World War II, she was employed at North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego. She also worked at the Wells-Lamont Glove Factory in Beardstown and was a cook at Browning School for several years. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Browning. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sager Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Sheese will officiate. PEORIA - Kathleen J. Belville, 46, of 705 Morton died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at Methodist Medical Center. She was born Aug. 16, 1955, in Beardstown to Joseph Bell and Barbara Wolfe. Surviving are her mother of Jacksonville; one son, Michael Bell of Peoria; two daughters, Elonda Flores of Peoria and Vanessa Mills of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Walter Bell of Galesburg. She was preceded in death by her father.
She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the cathedral, where visitation will be 30 minutes before services. The Rev. Joseph Donton will officiate. Cheryl Ann Best, 51, of Virginia, passed away at 4:40 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born Nov. 26, 1959, to Howard E. and Marilyn (Williamson) Fosdyck. Cheryl is survived by two sons, Jeremy (Sandy) Fosdyck and Darren Best Jr., and a daughter, Alyssa (fiance, William Foraker) Christie, all of Springfield; five grandchildren; and five brothers, Rodney (Ann) Fosdyck, Darryl (Kim) Fosdyck, Larry (Phyllis) Fosdyck, Randy Fosdyck and Joe (Karmen) Fosdyck. Also surviving is her longtime significant other, Mike Ryan of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Anthony Fosdyck. Cheryl held an associate degree from Robert Morris College in Springfield and had always worked in the food service industry. She had achieved her two dreams in life by owning a Ford Mustang and owning her own restaurant, Cheryl's Best Cafe in Chandlerville. Prior to the cafe in Chandlerville, she had operated Cheryl's Chop Shop in Virginia. She enjoyed listening to Elvis and watching hummingbirds. Visitation will be held at Lintner-Hurley Funeral Home in Chandlerville on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow the services at Chandlerville Cemetery. Surviving are five sons, Lawrence of Hazel Crest, Earl of Algonquin, Paul of Skokie, Russell of Cave Creek, Ariz., and Walter of Hook Sack, Wash.; five daughters, Mary Pate of Beardstown, Iola Martin of Browning, Janice Schall of Yuma, Ariz., Kathleen Smith of Petersburg and Elaine Rae of Quincy; 26 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, three brothers and three sisters. She worked at Turner's Bakery in Beardstown. BEARDSTOWN - Thomas W. Birdsell, 64, of Beardstown died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006, at his home. He was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Beardstown, the son of Fred and Maxine Armstrong Birdsell. He married Linda Lynn in 1970 in Beardstown. Mr. Birdsell graduated from Chandlerville High School in 1959. He worked at Lauder Junkyard in Beardstown and as a prison guard at Joliet State Penitentiary from 1961-63. He served as a Beardstown city police officer from 1963-69, where he also served as chief of police. He was a driver's license examiner for the secretary of state's office in 1969. He served as an Illinois State Police trooper from 1969 until he retired as a sergeant in vehicle information in 1998. He worked at Cass County Human Resource Center since 1999. He was a member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. Florence V. Bowman, 83, of Beardstown, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 28, 2001, at Heritage Manor South in Beardstown. She was born July 23, 1918, in Missouri, the daughter of John Henry and Maimie Alzeda Allen Tucker. She married Virgil E. Bowman on Feb. 16, 1937, in Missouri. He preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 1977. Surviving are one son, Virgil Bowman Jr. (wife Joyce) of Trivoli; six daughters, Betty Ballard (husband Junior), Susan Kirkham (husband Dennis), Cindy Logue, and Donna Campbell (husband Robert) all of Beardstown, Linda Meinert (husband Ron) of Leavenworth, Kans., and Dolorse Gouran of Rushville; 24 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Bessie Elmore of Beardstown; and her companion, Leonard Bankes, of Rushville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Nancy Emerick (husband Don Emerick of Jacksonville survives), and one son, John Thomas Bowman. Mrs. Bowman graduated from Beardstown High School in 1936. Before she married, she was a kindergarten teacher and after her marriage, she was a full-time wife and mother. Funeral services for Florence Bowman were held Friday Nov. 30 at the Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with Rev. Jerry Houchins of the Lighthouse Church in Beardstown officiating.
