Casey
is situated in the west half and the northeast quarter of section 20, and the east half of section 19 in Casey Township at the intersection of The National Road (U.S. route 40) and route 49 on the eastern edge of the county near the Cumberland County line.
The original town was first platted in 1851 and surveyed in 1853 by D. R.
Heimer. It took its namr from the Post Office west of
Cumberland, established, on August 28, 1849,
named for Zadoc Casey, U.S. Senator from Illinois and former Lieutenant
Governor. It was first settled about 1853 by John Lang, a Scottsman,
who built the National House Hotel. and Casey was located on the
Vandalia-Pennsylvania railroad.
