Ellsworth Lowry took dinner at Rev. F. M. Buckner Sunday.   They had excellent music in the afternoon.

Charles Cornwell and Fred Wells attended M. W. A. Lodge at Lindsey Saturday night.

Iredell Evans, the jolly old veteran and many other farmers from hereabouts attended the farmers institute last week.   All speak in glowing terms of the work.

On Saturday night as EZRA CORNWELL and Miss Myrtle Hedges were returning from church at Wesley Chapel in a buggy the horse became frightened and ran away.   The buggy was over turned, throwing the occupants out.   Ezra escaped with a few slight bruises but Miss Hedges was rendered unconscious for a time.   However, she was able to be taken home Sunday.   The buggy was a complete wreck and the horse was still running at last account.

EARL BUCKNER was exposed to the atrocities of a charivari Tuesday night and from the noise we heard it seemed they made a success of the affair.

T. R. CORNWELL lost one of his valuable young kine Sunday.   The youngster was in a lot, as was also an old stock well, which was minus a cover.   As the calf came nigh to the water supply, it seems it took a plunge therein, and when it’s body was recovered, as was the old well, nothing was left to be done but to rob the calfy of it’s hide and hang out the sign at the store of “veal” for sale “kinda cheap”.

Grandma BUCKNER died Saturday week, the funeral being held Monday at West York, after which the remains was laid to rest at the cemetery at that place.   Mrs. Buckner lived to a good old age.

T. R. CORNWELL has erected a new barn on his farm.

JAMES STANFIELD , who has been visiting friends and relatives here, started on the return trip to his home in Idaho.

The members of the Melrose Church have enmasse, brought the house owned by Dr. J. W. Baker in Melrose and are remodeling it to be used as a parsonage.

Professor Wilbur Keller and OTTO CORNWELL will give a magic lantern show exposition in the city hall Saturday night.   Seats on sale at P. F. Dodd’s store.

UNCLE BILLIE REED is seriously ill.

UNCLE JESSIE STANFIELD, an old an esteemed citizen, was stricken with paralysis on Wednesday night and until Friday evening his life was despaired of.   Then he rallied somewhat, but at present he is in a very critical condition.

EARL BUCKNER, one of our staunchest young farmers, anticipated changing his place of residence to Oklahoma, having sold his worldly effects at public sale on last Wednesday.   We are sorry to lose our young friend and talented agriculturalist.

J. C. English and WILLIAM MORGAN are improving the appearance of their farms by erecting buildings and fences, repainting, ect.

Our people arose Monday and cut timber as material for the church which is to replace that recently burned church (Melrose).   It seems all are intent on rebuilding our house of worship and the work of preparation should be forwarded by all.

OTTO CORNWELL and Miss BETSEY THOMPSON are the latest of cupid’s victims.   They were united in holy matrimony last Tuesday by Esq. A. G. Cowden.   The event was duly ratified by the young people, who gathered enmass and made very melodious noises on cowbells, dinner bells, shotguns, anvils, and the like.   We think that MR. CORNWELL should have rejoiced at escaping certain death, as he was generally foremost in raising a charivari party in honor of other victims.

CHARLES CORNWELL and Ed Crumrin went to Terre Haute Friday to purchase goods as they both contemplate huckstering this summer.

When MR. AND MRS. C. W. CORNWELL and Mr. And Mrs. George Barnes were leaving Terre Haute Wednesday, their horses became frightened and ran away.   They hit a street car track, the buggy turned over and Mrs. Barnes and MRS. CORNWELL were thrown out on the street.   Mrs. Barnes struck her head on a large square post and cutting several gashes in it.   She also hurt her ankle pretty badly.   She was unconscious for a great while.

We are about to lose one of our landmarks as Frank Hasten’s have bought an old building close to CHARLIE CORNWELL’S STORE and is tearing it down.   One by one they are going.
