History.....
Hanover Township encompasses Cook, DuPage and Kane Counties in northeastern Illinois. The area lies on the West
Branch of the DuPage River, which was settled in the 1820s. As a suburb of Chicago, it is a residential community
with some light manufacturing. It grew rapidly following World War II, retaining the name Ontarioville until its
incorporation in 1958. It is named for Hanover (or Hannover), Germany. The population growth is reflected in the
census: 28,850 (1980); 32,895 (1990); to most recently, 38,278 (2000).
