History .....
Niles Township was incorporated in 1850.
Lincolnwood (formerly Tessville): Founded by Johann Tess and George Proesel. Incorporated 1911.
Morton Grove: Settled in the 1830's; Incorporated
1895.
Niles: Potawatomi Indians were in this area in the
1700's. The first log cabin was built in 1832 by John Schadegar and Jules Perren and the second house not being
built until 1834. The village of Niles was incorporated August 24, 1899.
Skokie (formerly "Niles
Center"): Was founded in December of 1854 by Prussian immigrant Henry Harms,who
was also Skokie's first merchant, postmaster and founder of three Niles Township school districts. Read more about
