- "village (1990 pop. 37,093), Cook co., NE Ill., a suburb 16 mi/26 km NW of downtown Chicago; 42°04'N 87°49'W. Settled 1833, inc. 1899. The U.S. Coast Guard Air Facility is here, along with varied light industry. Mfg. (plastic prods., machinery, printing and publishing, electronic equip.). Glenview's past names: "South Northfield, then for a time North Branch. In 1878, Fred Hutchings named it Oak Glen. But the railroad already had a stop by that name, so another designation had to be found. After an attempt to call it Hutchings after the donor of the land and Barr, after a railroad superintendent, it became Glen View."




- Village of Northbrook - "It was incorporated as Shermerville in 1901 and was reincorporated as Northbrook in 1923. Largely residential, it has some industry and research laboratories and is an insurance center. Once a farming community, Northbrook developed industry after the coming of a RR in 1871.
