PERRY, WILLIAM VORHEES : was born 25 May 1831, in the town of Lysander, Onondaga Co., New York, died, 12th May
1891, Chicago, Cook, Illinois, of tumor, Mr. William V. Perry, in his 60th year.
When he was a year old his parents moved to Allegany Co., N. Y. where he resided with them until 1856. By 1856,
he had acquired a complete scientific course of study in an academy. He then sailed before the mast from New York
to New Orleans, near there he taught school two years, after he returned to New York, and in the summer of 1858,
removed with his parents to Burnett, Dodge Co. Wis. There he married Miss Maria K. McConnell, who survives him.
In April, 1861, he enlisted in the Army of the Union ( 3 month's service), and in 1862 enlisted for three years,
and served faithfully until disease compelled him to resign his office of 2d Lieut., of Co. K, 29th Div. He moved
to Beaver Dam with his family in 1871, and to Chicago in April, 1880, For the past twenty years his time and inventive
talents have been employed principally in perfecting a freight-car coupler, which was a most worthy and humanitarian
invention, and which has been partially adopted by some railroads. He was persistent in his efforts, conscientious
in every deed, and genial and true as friend.
His wife, and four daughters survive to mourn their loss. The daughters are Mrs. Ida. L. Clason, Mrs. Mattie Fallis,
Mary Perry, and Mrs. Libbie Russell. The funeral occurred at 10 A.M. Tuesday, at the resident of Mr. S.W. Fallis,
Chicago, under the auspices of George H. Thomas Post, No.5, G.A.R. and burial in the Oakswoods Cemetery, Chicago.
The Oakwoods Cemetery Association also stated-that William was buried the 12th May 1891, grave no. F-4-190, the
late resident was 587 W Ohio street, at Chicago, Illinois. [Beaver Dam, Dodge

ROOT, John W. --- Chicago, Jan. 15 - John W. Root, consulting architect of the World's Fair, died tonight of pneumonia.
He had been ill but a short time and was this morning supposed to be on the way to recovery. Mr. Root, though onlly
38 years old, stood at the head of his profession in this city. he was a member of the firm of Burnam & Root,
and has been a leader in the movement that since the great fire has put in permanent form the many fine buildings
that have added to the reputation of Chicago. Upon Mr. Root, largely the World's Fair directory were depending
to make the design of the Exposition buildings such an artistic success as to command the admiration of evevy vistior.
The selection of his successor will undoubtedly be one of the most difficult tasks the directors have yet encountered.
Among the innumerable beautiful structures that are the creation of the dead architect's genius, is the "Rookery"

1881 and left for Chicago. He was pastor at St. Patrick's Church, Lemont, IL, and in May, 1893 made rector of St.
Mary's, Evanston where he remained until his death on Nov. 6, 1927. He was interested in Irish-American affairs
serving as an editor for the Chicago Citizen, and helped to organize the A.O.H. in Evanston. Relatives that survived

STORMS, James - one of the first residents of Brookline, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret Johnson,
7514 Ingleside Avenue, on October 3, aged 94 years and four months. The last months of his life passed calmly and
peacefully away, Mr. Storms having no disease about him. The vital organs were apparantly worn out and ceased to
operate, and his last moments were like a babe going to sleep. Mr. Storms came to Brookline and built a residence
at 7316 Cottage Grove Avenue in the summer of 1864 and has resided in the same locality ever since. He was born
in the north of Scotland in the year 1806 and came to America in 1857. He was the father of nine children of whom
two sons anad four daughters survive him. He had thirty-seven grand children, twenty eight now living. His great
