THOMPSON, WILLIAM HALE ("BIG BILL") - Three time Mayor of Chicago, died March 19, 1944. He was born in Boston, May 14, 1869, and taken to Chicago when he was 9. He entered civic politics in 1900, being elected Alderman. He was elected Mayor on April 6, 1915, reelected in 1919, and again elected in 1927. It was at about this time that he made the fight on English text books, and threatened to "punch King of England on the snoot," if he visited Chicago. About that time, Thompson organized the American First Foundation.
