On March 3, 1942 he landed in Panama at Albrook Field. He went to Bakers and Cooks
School at Corozal on D.S. In January, 1943 was made Corporal and appointed Sergeanton August 1, 1943,
Date of Death: March 16, 1944; Republic of Panama.
At the time of his death he was cooking at an outpost in the Canal Zone
where a small group of soldiers were stationed.
He joined the Veterans of Foreign Wars on August 3, 1942, being a Charter member
of the Lieutenant Frank P. Albrook Post Number 3822 at Ancon, Canal Zone.

He remained on the Enterprise until the time of his death.
Completed his four year enlistment period on November 14, 1941.
Re-enlisted after Pearl Harbor.
Was Killed In Action on August 14, 1942 in the battle of Stewart Island.
At the timeof his death he held the rating of Coxswain.
Decorations: Purple Heart.

On August 12, 1948 his remains were brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. Maymr
Patrem Orr, Janesville, Illinois. Complete services were held at the home with the
Reverend E. N. Leonard officiating. Military services were under the auspices of the
Toledo American Legion. Interment was made in the Japanese Cemetery.

Date of Birth: January 6, 1920 in Chicago, Illinois.   Spent 9 years in the Mattoon Public Schools, 3 years in Neoga
T.H.S. Graduated June, 1940.
Date of Enlistment: November 18,   1940; Mattoon, Illinois. Graduated from Air Corps Radio school August 15, 1941;
transferred to the Philippine Islands October 4, 1941; was at Clark Field when the first bombs fell in the war with the Japs.
Parents received two letters, one December 12, 1941 from McKinley Field, near Manila; the other one dated January 25, 
1942 while on Bataan; was taken prisoner with the fall of Bataan, was in the Bataan Death March, survived that, only to die
in a Prisoner of War camp in Cabanatuan, where 21000 died of starvation, brutality and disease, June 16, 1942. Picture
shown was last picture ever taken, about two weeks before war started, near Clark Field, North of Manila. Nothing is
known of his military record, his last words were "Wish me luck, what a war, but we will lick them yet." He and thousands
of others never knew that it was done, but at what a cost, revenge was taken. They did not die in vain.
