CLINTON, January 1 – last rites for James Thorpe, who died at the John Warner Hospital Friday night, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Methodist Church. The Rev. Virgil Thompson officiated and burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.[Source: The Pantagraph 1 Jan 1929, tr: Susan Rogers]



C. N. Twaddle, a pension agent and well known in this county, having formerly lived in Waynesville, died suddenly of heart failure on Sunday morning in Chicago at the Englewood hospital. Mr. twaddle was on a visit here with Vespasian Warner, William Booth and others only last week and seemed in good health. When nearing Chicago on his way home from here he became suddenly ill and the train was met at Englewood by his son and he was conveyed to the hospital. Besides the wife and son, Charles E of Chicago he is survived by one sister, Mrs. Charles Evans of Taylorville, and J. S. Twaddle, an uncle, living in Waynesville. The body will be brought to Waynesville on Tuesday morning and short funeral services will be held from the train at 8:30 o'clock, with interment in Waynesville Cemetery.
