Biographies
Cunningham
John McGee Cunningham came to DeWitt county in 1858, from Pennsylvania down the Ohio river to Cairo, Illinois then to McLean County where he farmed for three years. He then purchased 80 acres in Wilson Township eventually owning 350 acres in Wilson and Wapella townships. They were members of the Christian Church at Long Point, where they are buried. He and his wife Elizabeth had eight children: Adeline, William, Elizabeth, Hannah,Franklin, George, Absalom and Cora. Elizabeth married James Luther Hubbell
Francis Cunningham came to DeWitt County in 1853 and purchased 80 acres and 12 acres in Wapella Township. He and his wife Charity were members of the Methodist church at Sugar Grove. They had nine children John, May, William, Elizabeth, Charles, Fred, George, Eva and Edward. Francis and Charity are buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery
Francis and John's mother Elizabeth moved to the town of Heyworth in McLean County in 1854 after the passing of her husband William. She died December 24, 1888 and is buried in the Heyworth Cemetery. Other children of Elizabeth's also came to DeWitt County; they were Jane, Hannah, Mary Margret and William -- who mostly spent their adulthood in McLean County.

Luther S. Hubbell
Luther S. Hubbell moved to Illinois in 1852 along with his wife Eliza and nine
children: George Thomas, John Francis, Ephraim, Joseph Oscar, Francis
Marion, Mary Ellen, Sarah Jane, James Luther and Paris Brown (was born in 52).
After a few years on rent land in both Wapella and Wilson townships he purchased
120 acre farm in Wapella Township and additional acres in Wilson Township. They were
devoted members of the Christian church at Long Point. Luther worked for Lincoln's
campaign even prior to his election as president. He is buried in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
James Luther and Elizabeth Cunningham were married October 25, 1870 their
children mostly remained in DeWitt county and several of their descendents remain in the
county today. Eliza Troxel, Sarah Hedrick, Fred, Nora Short and Ab lived their lives in
DeWitt County; another brother, John Albert, was a minister and retired in McLean
County. Cora Barnett lived in McLean County all her life after she was married. The
daughter' names include there married name.
Ephraim Hubbell was killed in the Battle of Shiloh his body was retrieved and buried
in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
