Lieut. Nile E. Lambert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lambert of Albion was among the hundreds of new combat-ready fliers to be graduated throughout the great Southwest at the eleven advanced pilot schools of the Army Air Force Central Command Thursday.  The schools graduating classes included Altus and Frederick in Oklahoma and Aloe, Brooks, Lubbock, Blackland, Pampa, Moore, Foster, Ellington and Eagle Pass in Texas.  Nile was graduated at Foster Field, Victoria, Texas.

 

Nile enlisted on January 23, 1940, nearly eleven months before Pearl Harbor.  He received his basic training at Chanute Field and was sent some months later to the Canal Zone where he saw service with ground crews on both Atlantic and Pacific side of the Canal.  Returning to the states some time ago he entered flight training and has now completed his course.

 

Lieut. Lambert arrived here Friday to spend a ten day furlough with relatives and friends before for duty at an unannounced station.

Bryce H. Lamkin (photo)

Master Sergeant Bryce H. Limkin, 949 S.E.T.S., is stationed in Luke Field, Arizona.  Son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Lamkin of Albion he has been in service since March 10, 1941 or two years yesterday.

Robert Lance (photo)

(Cousin to Weir and Bryce Lamkin)

 

Their cousin, First Sergeant Robert Lance is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Lance of West Salem.  He has been in the service a year next month.  His address is 1st Sgt. R.O. Lance, 35476081, Co. Charles R. Lankford (photo)

 

T-Cpl. Charles R. Lankford, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Lankford of Browns is stationed now in the city that is noted for being the birthplace of America’s greatest soldier-Alexandria, VA.  His address is 900 South Lee Street.  Inducted June 27, Lankford is training as a high speed radio operator.  He received his first schooling at Kansas City, then with the 17th Signal Company was sent to Washington, D.C. and recently transferred to Alexandria.

Robert G. Lankford (photo)

 

Technical Sergeant Robert G. Lankford, husband of Mrs. Clara Faye Saxe Lankford and son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawson G. Lankford of Browns has been reported missing in action, according to a report received from the War Department last Thursday evening.  Sgt. Lankford, radio gunner on a Liberator bomber, had been overseas since Easter, and was known to be based in Italy.  The telegram stated that he was missing in action in a raid over Austria on May 30.

 

Lankford was inducted Jan. 16, 1943, and received his elementary training in radio at Scott Field.  Early last December he was sent to Gowen Field, Boise, Idaho, for training as a radio gunner.  Shortly after completion of his training he was sent overseas.   Mr. and Mrs. Lankford have another son in the service, Charles, who is stationed at LaPlata, Maryland.

A message was received by Mrs. Clara Fay Lankford Tuesday night that her husband, T-Sgt. R.G. Lankford, German prisoner of war, has been liberated and is on his way home.  Lankford, a radio gunner on a Liberator bomber was reported missing in action over Austria May 30, and was afterward reported a prisoner.

NEWS FROM WAR DEPARTMENT

 

Mr. and Mrs. L.G. Lankford have received an official letter from the commanding officer of the 15th Air Force of the U.S. Army, N.F. Twining, Major General, on July 17, stating that the Liberator B-24 Bomber on which their son, Tech. Sgt. Robert G. Lankford was a radio gunner operator was last seen leaving the group while in heavy fighting over Pottendorf, Austria.  Two of the crew are known to be German prisoners of war, but according to all information available, the plane and the rest of the crew have not been located.  Tech. Sgt. Lankford has been missing since May 30.

Willie Leigh

WILLIE LEIGH IS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED FIRST REPORTED MISSING

 

Willie Leigh, reported missing in action two weeks ago, has since been reported seriously wounded and in a hospital in Italy, according to a war department message received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Leigh of Samsville Sunday.  Leigh was first reported as missing in action on July 2.  The last letter his parents received from him he was in Italy, near Rome.  He was one of the first Samsville boys to enter service.

Sgt. George Edward Longbons formerly of Browns, son of Louis Longbons, is stationed at Kellogg Field, Battle Creek , Michigan, where he is with the 10th Services Squadron.  Sgt.
