Pvt. Harold A. Garman, son
of Alva Garman, was recently awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor, the
nation’s highest decoration, as well as the Distinguished Cross.

Corporal Garman received the Congressional Medal of Honor “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty on the 25th of August, 1944 in the vicinity of Montereau, France.

service since September, 1941.

Pvt. Norman Joe George, son
of Mrs. Nellie George of Grayville, enlisted about two years ago and is now
located at Fort Lewis, Washington, where his address is Co. L, 130th
Infantry, APO 33.
Harold D. Gill (photo)
Pfc. Harold Gill is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Gill of Mazon, formerly of Ellery. Harold is
somewhere in England and gets his mail at APO 516A, Care of Postmaster, New York, N.Y. He was inducted January 7, 1943.
Raymond Gill of Ellery, Reported Missing in Action
Frank Gill of Ellery last Friday received a message from the War Department stating that his youngest son, Pvt. Raymond Gill, 36, had been missing in action in the northwest Africa area since July 27. The last letter received by relatives here from Pvt. Gill had stated that he was in Sicily.
Gill was inducted from Wayne county on August 5 of last year and was never home on leave or furlough after his entrance into the army. He was a member of the 37th Infantry and had been in Africa since February. Pvt. Gill is a brother of Braddie Gill of this city.
Mr. and Mrs. Noble Ginther received a message from the war department at Washington last night stating that their son Pfc. Billy Ginther had been seriously wounded in action. The message stated that his parents will be advised to reports of the progress of his condition. His address is Pfc. Billy Ginther, Hospitalized, Central Postal Director, APO 640, Care Postmaster, New York.
Billy is in an infantry outfit and was serving in France when he was wounded.

Bob Grady, Seaman 1st
Class, has been away from Albion for several years but is well known
here. Before enlisting in the navy some months ago, Bob was a driver for
Southern Limited Bus lines out of Chicago. His address is now Co. 7, Sea C, U.S.N. Training School, Naval Armory, Detroit, Michigan. Grady is
the nephew of Mrs. George Bassett and he made his home with Mr. and Mrs.
Bassett for many years when he lived in Albion.
Van Doran Graham, seaman second class is the son of Mr. And Mrs. James Graham of Ellery. His address is Bartlett Gym Co. F-3, University of Chicago, Chicago (3) Illinois. He has been in the service since last October.

One of Edwards county’s
several girls in the service is Lieutenant Audrey Greathouse, A.N.C. who is now
stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, having recently been transferred to the Texas post from the Station Hospital at Fort Sheridan.
Lieut. Greathouse is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irl Greathouse of North Edwards. She graduated from Olney Sanitarium School of Nursing on May 28, 1942, and enlisted with Armed Forces on November 15, 1942.
Pfc. Eugene Gubbins, a member of the 16th Constabulary Sqd., is stationed in Germany. Pfc. Gubbins is the son of Tom Gubbins, enlisted in 1948 and sailed for Germany in October of that year.

of Mrs. Maude Gubbins of Albion, has been in the service since a year ago last
February when he was inducted from Terre Haute, Ind., where he was employed at
the time. His address is Co. I 387th Inf. APO 445 Fort Leonard Wood Mo.
Willard B. Gumbrell (photo)
Pvt. Willard B. Gumbrell
(36659088) whose address is 31 Fleet Walk, Fort Green Housing Project, Apt. 4D, Brooklyn 1, New York, is taking special training in engineering. He is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Gumbrell and has been in the service since last May.
