Pvt. Carl Mitchell, Miss Carrie Simms Married Saturday

Miss Carrie Simms, office secretary of the Edwards County Farm Bureau, and Pvt. Carl Mitchell of Camp Stewart, Ga., were united in marriage last Saturday night at 9:40 at Ridgeland, South Carolina, by Judge L. McCormack. The single ring ceremony was used and the couple was unattended.
The bride, who is a daughter of the late A.A. and Mrs. Ella Simms, graduated from the ACHS with the class of 1938. She attended Southern Illinois Normal University for two years and since a year ago last summer has been employed at the Farm Bureau office.
Pvt. Mitchell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Mitchell, graduated from the ACHS with the class of 1939 and attended Lockyear Business College in Evansville. Inducted into the service in September, he ahs since been stationed at Camp Stewart, at Regimental Headquarters, 508th C. A. A.A.
Mrs. Mitchell returned home Tuesday morning and will continue her work here.

Miss Monica Smith Bride of Pfc. A. M. Ralston of Camp Shelby, Miss.

Miss Monica Smith, formerly of Albion and Pfc. Alfred M. Ralston of Camp Shelby, Mississippi, were united in marriage at the parsonage of the Court Street Methodist church at Hattiesburg, Miss., on December 1st at high noon.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smith of Golden Gate. She was employed for a number of years in Crome’s Café here previous to going to Hattiesburg, where she has been employed for the past several months.
Pfc. Ralston is the son of Richard Ralston of Westfield. He is a member of the motorized reconnaissance unit and is stationed at Camp Shelby.
The newlyweds arrived last week on a fifteen day furlough to visit relatives and friends at Albion, Golden Gate and Westfield, after which they will be at home to their friends for the present at Hattiesburg.

Local Air Line Stewardess Became Bride Saturday

Stewardess Fern Chalcraft, who has been flying United Air Lines’
western division with headquarters in Portland since 1940, was married to Kent
Adams of the Navy last Saturday.
Miss Chalcraft is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse F. Chalcraft of Ellery. After graduating from the Albion high school she received her nurses training from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital at Chicago. Before joining United she was assistant supervisor there. The couple will make their home in Seattle.

Leo Bowers and Miss Elizabeth Michels Wed Yesterday
Miss Elizabeth Michels of Ellery and Leo Bowers of Mt. Zion community were united in marriage on Wednesday afternoon, July 16th, at five o’clock at the Methodist parsonage in St. Charles, Mo., the pastor, Rev. Stuky, reading the single ring ceremony, Jay Bowers, brother of the groom, and his wife accompanied the young couple.
The bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Michels of Ellery and graduated with the class of ’38 of the A. C. H. S. She attended Eastern Illinois State Teachers’ College in Charleston, and has been teaching at the Wabash school near Ellery where she has been employed for the coming winter.
Mr. Bowers is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Smith Bowers of Mt. Zion community. He also graduated from the A. C. H. S. Class of ’38, and is associated with his brother Jay in the trucking business.
The young couple are at home to friends in the Len Porter apartments on South Fifth street.

Robert Lankford, Miss Clara Faye Saxe Married
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn T. Saxe of Ellery, announce the marriage of their youngest daughter, Clara Faye to Robert Gould, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Lankford at Browns. The young couple re-united in marriage at the Methodist parsonage on Friday, December 25, at 10:30 o’clock, with Rev. T. A. Shaffer officiating. The single ring ceremony was used. The young couple were attended by Miss Jean Lankford, a sister of the groom, and Keith Nelson of Browns.
Lohengrin’s wedding march was played by Miss Marjorie Hortin of Albion. The bride was attired in light blue wool crepe with navy accessories and wore a corsage of pink rose buds.
Those attending the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Saxe, Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Lankford, Mrs. T. A. Shaffer, daughters Isabelle and Frances.
Definite plans cannot be made for their home, as the groom expects to be called for military service in the very near future, therefore the bride expects to complete her Junior year at the A.C.H.S. The groom will continue working at National Biscuit Co. in Evansville where he has employment.

Lieut. Pauline Stallings Bride of Lieut. Wm. Howard Of Army Air Corps
Mr. and Mrs. William Stallings of Golden Gate announce the marriage of their daughter, Lieut. Pauline Stallings to Lieut. William A. Howard of the Army Air Corps, whose home is in Flint, Michigan.
The marriage ceremony was read by Rev. J. Edward, pastor of a Methodist church in Springfield, Mo. They were attended by Lieut. And Mrs. T. A. Brown of Palm Springs, Calif., and Lieut. Betty Rose of St. Louis. The wedding party were attired in the uniforms of their respective branches of service.
Lieut. Howard is a graduate of the University of Michigan from which he entered the Air Force. The bride graduated from Albion High School, after which she completed a course in nurse’s training in the Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, and served as staff nurse at the hospital before volunteering for Army service.
Both bride and groom are stationed for foreign service, but will be at home in Springfield, Mo., for the present.

Cpl. Nigel Murphy and Miss Violet Shelby Wed El Paso, Texas
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Murphy of Ellery announce the marriage of their eldest son, Cpl. Nigel (Buster) Murphy, to Miss Violet Shelby, youngest daughter of Mrs. Bessie Shelby of Fairfield.
The marriage vows were said in the Church of St. Clements in El Paso, Texas, Saturday afternoon, April third. They were attended by Pvt. Luther J. Miller and Cpl. Charles R. Shirley, both of Fort Bliss, Texas. The bride wore a street length dress of powder blue with white accessories. She wore a corsage of white carnations. The groom wore his regulation uniform. The bride attended the Fairfield Community High School and for the past three years has been employed at the Chefford Master Mfg. Co., in Fairfield. The groom graduated from Albion Community High School with the class of ’38 and before his induction into the army was employed at Emmerson Electric Co., at St. Louis, Mo.

Smith-Ralston Nuptials
Miss Monica Smith and PFC Alfred M. Ralston of Camp Shelby, Miss., were married on Tuesday noon December 1, at the Court Street Methodist church parsonage, in Hattiesburg, Miss.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralston arrived in Albion on last Wednesday night, for a two weeks’ visit with relatives in Albion, Golden Gate, and Westfield.
