The suit of Leach vs. Martin, in regard to the money belonging to the State, which was deposited in Mr. Martin's safe by Mr. Leach, as County Treasurer, some two or three years since, and which was stolen therefrom, was tried in the Effingham Circuit Court yesterday, resulting in Leach's favor. The case will be taken to the Supreme Court.

At Effingham, Ills., yesterday, John Gammon, a member of the firm of S. W. Little & Co., millers of that place, and a highly esteemed citizen, was arrested by the sheriff of Schuyler Co., Ills., on the charge of having murdered a man in Rushville in that county, fourteen years ago, and afterwards breaking jail and getting away, since when no trace could be found of him until recently. The sheriff took Gammon in irons back to Rushville. [Deseret News 17 Mar 1875 - Sub. by K.T.]
