St. Joseph's Cemetery
Cabery, Illinois
St. Joseph's Cemetery is located in Section 17, Rogers Township, Ford County, Illinois about one mile west of the village of Cabery, and belongs to St. Joseph Parish.
The church was built in the village of Cabery soon after the first settlers came to the area. teh first post office was at the farm of Jared Williams and the postmaster was John Eldridge. The farmers took turns bringing the mail from Dwight.
The first burials were in the churchyard, but the graves were later moved to the present location on the Saddler farm one mile west of Cabey. The earliest burials are those of four children of J.E. Pastoral, who died November 1 and December 22, 1878.
All church and cemtery records were destroyed in a fire many years ago. There were 231 tombstones with readable inscriptions in 1963. the attached list (dated June 20, 1998) includes 96 more names.
