According to Family legend, Milton first saw his wife Mary as a baby. He told Mary’s mother to save her for him,
he was going to come back and marry her. He did fifteen years later, 03/19/1887.
They were married at H.C. Taylor’s house in Casey Co. KY, in the presence of Preston
Crockran and Joshua Clarkson by D.R. Hays, Minister... Mary Caroline
Mary Caroline (Taylor) Brown filed for divorce from Milton E. Brown which was granted 11/28/1918 in Franklin
CO IL.
In the 1920 census, Milton is listed at a separate address by himself.
He is renting where he is living. He is also listed as a "widower" (maybe wishful thinking
on his part). He is listed as a coal miner. Mary is listed by herself as the keeper of
a boarding house which she owns and on which she has a mortgage . Her marital status is
"divorced". She is 45 years of age.
Milton died on April 12, 1943 from Ptomein Poisoning while living with his daughter
Gertrude in Christopher IL. January 20, 1999, he was a coal miner.

almost killed in the coal fall yesterday and died before he
was brought to "thesurface. A company spokesman said Brown

Uncle Dan was a member of the Charlie Birger Gang that ran bootleg
liquor, and fought with the Shelton Gang from St. Louis area for
the rights to Booze and gambling. Uncle Dan was a bartender at the
Shady Rest, a tavern between Marion and Harrisburg. Uncle Dan was
arrested with 3 other gang members for mugging a man in Colp and a
stolen car. He was sentenced to Menard for 10 years to life for
this crime. These events are documented in Knight of another Sort
by Gary DaNeal. His birthplace was determined from his application
for Social Security in 1945. I received a picture of Birger’s gang
members in Menard Penitentary. Uncle Dan as listed as Alton D.
Parker AKA Danny Brown. I received a copy of his prison record
also. Uncle Dan went in Menard in 1927, he escaped in 1931,
returned to Menard in 1933. He was then sent to Joliet where he
served time until 1945. At that time he was shipped back to Menard
where he was released to the Railroad.
