David J. Austin, son of Elwell E. Austin, was born in the town
of Gourverneur, N. Y., Dec. 20, ’20; removed to Mount Sterling, Brown
Co., Ill., in 1850, and the following year came to this county. He has
been twice appointed Postmaster, and twice elected to the office of
collector; was married June 12, ’43, to Nancy C. Smith, by whom he had
4 children, 3 of whom are living. They are members of the Missionary
Baptist Church of Avon, and are zealous workers in the Master’s cause.
He has driven a huxter wagon for 14 years. P. O. Avon.
