Lafayette Barker, P. O., Table Grove; res., sec. 17, Farmers'
tp.; was born in Fulton Co. April 23, 1851, son of John W. Barker. Mr.
Barker received a common-school education in Fulton Co., after which he
attended the Business College of St. Joseph, Mo., and graduated there
Nov. 2, 1870. He married, May 7, 1874, to Frances Steel, daughter of
Graft Steel, formerly of Bushnell. This union has been blessed with
three children, viz: Ora M., Melvin and Bessie. Mr. B. is a prominent
school-teacher of this township and parts of McDonough Co. He is at
present farming, yet his old school patrons are constantly requesting
him to resume teaching.
